Anyone ever try aluminum anodizing???
« on: January 27, 2008, 07:50:49 PM »
Just wondering if it is something I could do at home (the home powder coat kits work ok). Or should I farm the parts to someone that has a setup?

depending on what you are anodizing, you might find someone who is getting some done but hasn't met the minimum.  We occasionally sneak a race part or 2 in a lot that hasn't hit minimum...
are you going for color, clear or hard like Jon and Sum were discussing

Hate to spread the good word about Aluminart, Pegleg, but they are reliable ,fast and understand race car stuff.

The location is a little bit difficult to find but they're near Mission and Mountain (N and E) not too far from the location of the old fruit stand (no longer there) where the Summers Bros Streamliner was built..

Paying CASH usually gets a lower price.

Race car stuff???

I need a heatsink from a rare and expensive amplifier anodized.
I guess I could also get my spill plates done green......that would be sweet.

I will give them a call even though I would like to be able to do this stuff myself.

CAN do yourself and SHOULD do yourself are two different things.

If all you need is a blotchy looking anodized part, knock your self out. The number of ways you can screw up anodizing is unlimited. If you are looking for a professional looking part, give it to someone else.

I suppose when you finish you are going to properly dispose of all these toxic chemicals?

New aluminum anodizes well. The older and dirtier it is, the less likely you will get an acceptable part. If it has ever had contact with oil then don't bother.

If you are planning on doing color, plan on lots of practice parts.

Lots of work for very little return. I'd let someone else do it.
Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now.
Just remember . . . It isn't life or death.
It's bigger than life or death! It's RACING.
