I hit a rabbit in a rental once. Was not to take the car out of California, they thought I was working up north.

The rabbit knocked out a plastic plug where a fog lamp would be. While I cleared the paperwork the manager did a walk-around. He came in and told me that I was responsible for the damage. I showed him the completed paperwork and told him it was his problem now. Never heard a thing.

I am far from responsible for anything,

Thats my rule, and the reason we bring kids to the salt. Their school is rule one - keep the beer cooler in the shade. You know you have taught them well when all you have to do is look at a kid and then at the beer box, its fun to watch them jump to duty.

When I spent the week on the salt in '98, I rented a van here in Wichita and told them where I was going (they didn't suspect trouble). There were no carpets, but I used plastic and tape on the floor. A simple rinse took care of that. On the way home, I ran through a lot of rain - but I ran the van through a couple car washes with undercarriage sprayers once I got home.
No problems.
