0941 am. My wife got through after being on hold for 45 minutes. She was told the only rooms left were mini-suites. Got two reserved. I was on hold about 35 minutes when my wife called and let me know she got us two rooms. Only one king sized bed in each room but we can adjust for that. Hopefully something will change to help us working folks out. No time to keep dialing, waiting on hold and being on the job at the same time. That can create problems for just about anyone. Good luck to the rest of you around the country and world who are in the same fix as the rest of us. The good thing, the Casinos have come through with better pricing and I beleive recognition of Speedweek as a historical meet once a year that deserves some special treatment. That is not taking away anything from the awesome folks who run World of Speed or the World Finals, also historical meets. Thanks to Mike Cook and all his hard work to get us all a better rate and rooms at Wendover. Hopefully they can open a few more phone lines next time around to cut down on wait time and stress levels of us speed freaks.

after calling since 6:55 am being on hold since 9:30 finaly getting through,at 10:30 were told the only rooms left were suites at 185 per night + tax. NO DEAL!
Maybe we should move inspection to monday because they seem to be holding sat night for gamblers not racers.

Three hours and 54 minutes. Dial. re-dial, etc. from 7:00 aA.M. for a solid hour, then 15 minutes every other 15 minutes. Finally got on at 9:45 and connected with reservations after 62 minutes on hold. Only rooms left are single bed suites at the Peppermill, and with tax are $200.00 per night. Better this year? Doesn't seem so.

Guys, you might try getting rooms in Wells, and see if you can get rooms reserved in Wendover for later in the week.  Showing up to race on Tues or Weds works too, so think about that also.

This is an absurd way to do business with the Wendover hotels. They KNOW all about Speedweek and that we all would be calling at once, yet they did not do anything to staff up or make any kind of special accomodations for all the calls they would be getting. They could have done lots of things to avoid this. Put on more phone lines and operators, make a special web site available, have SCTA assign rooms, etc.

Instead as a group we wasted 1000's of man hours and lost productivity not to mention broken phones thrown against the wall. And they incurred a lot of resentment from us as well as their reservations staff.

I think the SCTA should kick ass at Wendover and get them to do things in an efficient manor.

Don, first of all, don't mess with the chef.  Getting angry with any of the hotel workers or managers will only make things worse.  They get their orders from Corporate, just like most every other working stiff.  What we need to do is start showing them how much we appreciate what they HAVE done.  Maybe a few little things like not tracking salt to your room or leaving the rooms trashed out might help.  If we treat the Hotels more like home, it might make a difference.
Now, for those who didn't get a room, don't get suicidal.  There are many options, including: one hour drive to Wells, two hour drive to SLC, sleeping bags in a friends room, showing up Tuesday when many racers will already be broken.
Every year racers cancel out at the last minute, and with the help of this site, rooms have been and can be passed along up to the time of the meet.
If you need two rooms, settle for one.  If you have to hopscotch Hotels, do it.  The hardest part is trying to find multiple rooms, so if you have to sleep in Wells for a couple of days, so be it.
I have said this before, but one year I had a multi millionare sleeping at the foot of my bed on "borrowed" patio furniture.  Don't be proud, its part of your yearly "Salt Dues".

Bob thanks for saying that being calm is the only way to handle this. I was nice on the phone and was able to get something I could make work. I heard many other operators in the back ground. The SCTA HAS tried to work with the hotels thats why we had this new start day to try and work with them. It is a possibility that some were able to keep their reservations from last year. I had a room at the Nevada Crossing (now Rainbow) for many years. When I started working for the Association I gave it up. I have to move rooms during week here in 2008 and am glad to do it.

I'm glad I have a room for this year by waiting, like everyone else who called, starting on Sunday night. I'll be on the salt at daybreak Sunday morning to get a pit and go to inspection. I'll check in after inspection.

I believe more rooms will be opened up. Maybe I'm lucky to only want one room. If the first 60 guys calling would have asked for 10 we would all be SOL. Good Luck

After a few hours managed to get 4 suites @ 1.2K each. WHat a load of crap, this is more than 2 weeks in Paris and Spain for my wife and I last year including airfare.

Its a damn shame they treat people this way.

Maybe they need some get some expensive plumbing problems or lobbies with unexplained odors that get progressively worse to make a statement about their bad behavior.

I called my dear friend Wayne (I'm not in with the mob) Newton. I told him I'd let him drive my car to get licensed, and see where it would go from there, if he would build a hotel in Wendover that would cater exclusivley to the Bonneville racers. Fig (as I call him) said he heard the SCTA had a load of cash stashed and  said something could be worked out.  So I guess every thing depends on that cash stash?
I got one room for showering purposes and we won't be there till mid week but maybe we'll get more runs in. Young guys on crew are going to camp at bend in road if no rattlesnakes. lol Maybe  attempt at humor will help.  ( I didn't think so)
