Sealing two piece wheels
« on: December 19, 2007, 07:26:06 PM »
Has anyone had any success sealing two piece wheels for use with tubeless tires?

The two piece wheels on our car, "Bockscar" have a O ring or you could use RTV.

is the o-ring trapped in a grove between the wheel halves or lying in the v where the two pieces come together like a go cart wheel?

I had a set of wheels that the o ring layed in the V. I did not like the thought of centrifical force trying to throw it out. I took them out and sealed them with RTV silicone. I only went 150 with this set up. I did have to reseal one after trying to make a pass in 05 at SW ROUGHROUGHROUGH. Solid rear axel and the wheel that leaked was on the rear. I replaced the wheels with new ones that matched the fronts. I still bring the old ones to meets for spares. I will use them again if needed. I think the one leaked because the bolts that held the halves together should have been tourqed more often and again the salt was ROUGH and a solid mounted axel.  Good Luck Vince
