To anyone interested:

I have been following the BNI for awhile now, and would like to get involved.  I am interested in helping a team as available.  I am a mechaincal engineer by trade and have fabrication experience, oowning a small shop with a Bridgport, 15" lathe, and weldign equipment.  My goal is to work with a team to determine if I want to pursue building or buying a car in the next few years.

Thanks

Joel

Have you been to any races yet?  If so there are many people out there that might want your help, and possibly many that do not.  Go to the races and talk with the racers and if they look like they need a hand ask.  The worst they can say is no.

You might consider trying to hook up with Sumner.  He's pretty active on this forum, and lives in Blanding, Utah -- not all that far from where you are.  He's building his own lakester in his shop -- and while he might not need any help - he surely could give you some eyes-on experience in building a land speed race vehicle.

Best wishes, and we look forward to seeing you on the salt.

I was at the last meet for this year at Bonneville  with a friend and had a great time, though the next week he went in for prostate surgery.   I looked for NM tags on cars/ support vehicles, found none.  I am sure I that I am interested in getting involved.  I thought it is great that the focus in on not just the driver but more on the design and capabilities of the car.   So my goal is to find someone I can help in various ways in return they could let me figure out if this is good way to spend my discretionary money.

1977  what kind of a project would interest you --i live in modesto but with the computer we are only 2 seconds apart --if you go to the build diaries and look at not just a wheel on a stick its a bike (sidecar) that im building for my wife sheri --i have an intrest in building a streamliner (motorcycle) and the only motor i would run is a harley --i know nothing about aerodynamics --fabrication and engine building is my thing   willie  buchta

My thoughts are right now get involved with someone working a wheel project.  As I learn more I may buy a used car to develop an engine program with a goal of building enough power that if I build a liner I can get up to 300MPH.  I am only in my mid thirtys, so time is on my side if I start soon. Like I mentioned I have a pretty good shop ~2000sqft which is pretty well stocked.  I have been building cars since 15yrs old and have amassed a pretty good tool box.

Since I have a masters in mechanical engineering I figure I can help someone even if it is by email.

1977:

Unh, mmm, you may run into a problem if you get started in Land Speed Racing, if you're like more than a few of us.  Trying to limit your expenses to "discretionary money" only is about as easy as trying to mow grass on the moon.  'Nuff said?

MGB           a good thing to spend discretionary money on?  Man this is a totaly crazy thing to do with any money, but that has not stopped me or a lot of other people. Jump in and go for it. It is the coolest thing I have ever done with a car. Good Luck.  Vince

Well thanks so far for all the words of encouragement but I have only one lead so far and I have not been able to get ahold of him yet.  If anyone knows of more leads please  send them to me.

thanks
