Pre-entry 2008 Speedweek
« on: December 04, 2007, 07:13:00 PM »
Well I jumped into this with both feet this morning(in my mouth as it turned out). I am new at this internet stuff. Who says you cant teach old dogs (64) new tricks. Anyway I just bought an 07 busa to run at 08 speedweek. When does pre-entry start? Are they going to limit the number of entries next year?  Do you get to pick your own number?
I ran a BMW speedweek 1978, went slower than I want to talk about and I have been spectating of and on since '78. I'm sure I will have a million questions before speedweek.

If you think 64 is old in this game I've got news for you!

Numbers are issued by Chuck Kalbach. You can get his E-mail from the SCTA web site. He normally issues the expired numbers list around the first of the year. You can pick any available number from the list.

Pre-entries won't happen for some time yet, so sit tight. That doesn't keep you from sending in your BNI membership so that you get a 2008 rule book, also sometime after the first of the year.

I doubt their will be any limits on entries.

The Texas Mile in Goliad, Texas has their first race at the end of March. It would be a good place to get in some practice runs.

Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now.
Just remember . . . It isn't life or death.

As for numbers, Dean is right -- but if you've got a preference, go ahead and ask Chuck if that particular number is available.  The list Dean refers to is numbers that were used but haven't been for a while -- but there are other numbers that have never been used -- and there's no list of them.  Recently, for instance, I asked about some numbers for the bikes we're adding to our fleet, and he replied with some yes, some no, and some suggestions for others that I hadn't thought to ask about.  Give it a try -- you might get what you ask for.

Two more new guy questions I've been holding iff on:

1) Do you need to be a member of SCTA or BNI to ask Chuck for a number?

2) Should I wait until after Jan 1 to join BNI?

Thanks, Ken

  Fogpirate,

Join  BNI soon. It is required to receive a number.

E-mail Chuck a list of your preferred numbers as soon as he lists the numbers that are in danger of being lost. If the number you want isn't on the  list and is available, he will probably give you the number right away. I believe April 1st is the last day people can reclaim their number that has been inactive, if you want a number thats on the list you will have to wait until after then

#1:  No, you do not repeat do not need to be a member of SCTA/BNI to get a number, I'm pretty darned sure.  That is, ECTA numbers are valid at SCTA/BNI events, and in fact are taken from a "block" of numbers that Chuck allocated to ECTA.  Now -- whether you need to be a member of ECTA or SCTA/BNI I don't know, but strictly speaking, no you don't have to be SCTA...

Chuck is easy to work with. If you don't care he will assign you something. If you have preferences give him a list of numbers.

I got my number before I joined.

I got my number before I joined SCTA as I ran a couple of USFRA events first. But go ahead and join.... heck, join both!
