WHAT IS THE FASTEST A BSA HAS EVER GONE?
« on: November 23, 2007, 10:51:15 AM »
My friend "Pushrod Tom" has a BSA he just went 122.171 mph with at Maxton in the M/PBF-500/4 class.

In looking at the Bonneville records, the fastset CURRENT record I see is 128 mph.

I am assuming there were faster speeds by BSA's somewheres along the line, whose records were broken by other bikes that came after them and thats why they don't show up now.

I would be interested in knowing the fastest a BSA has ever gone UNFAIRED (naked), FAIRED (partially streamlined), and STREAMLINED.

Thanks for your help,

Walt

The 750cc A65 Jim Rice rode for me was geared for 128 MPH at 10,200 and would do all of that at a mile dirt track just before he pitched it in the corner. That was naked and tucked in.

The 750cc 3 cylinder road racer would hit about 175 on the straight at Daytona.  Don’t know if anyone has gone any faster on a BSA.

Thanks for your post, ack, I appreciate the additional insight into BSA's.

However, I guess I should have stated that I am looking for official timed land speed records.

Thanks,

In the mid 50s Fred Rist(sp?) rode a 650 BSA to 140 on Pendine Sands in Wales.  He was running methanol.

In June of 1944 during the invasion, one of the fold up paratrooper BSAs was accidentally dropped from an airplane and reached 178 MPH before it hit the ground..... At least thats what Uncle Ernie told me....

Oh come on, that was funny

Disqualified, right?  Over 175 without a parachute?

That was an M20 BSA.  It took a platoon of soldiers three days hard digging to find it and retrieve it.

The BSA was not disqualified. If you look up the 1944 rules the parachute was to be connected to the rider. I still think this is better. Now when to chute opens the bike stops and  the rider continues. Maybe the rules should be looked at one more time.

You think you're being funny.  Don't you?  If the M/C committee sees this they no doubt will start thinking.  And God knows what may come from it.

Well, speaking of things British falling from planes with parachutes -

Maybe both the rider AND the vehicle should have a chute!
