Rookie question! What's the usual procedure for the rookie line???
Rookie Answer! Rookie orientation pretty much will explain it all to you. Just like the other lines, but shorter. You can line up in the rookie line at any time. After the first 25 in points run, the starter, at his discretion, will start running from the rookie line. Your first run is under the microscope. You AND your crew will be observed. If your crew speeds down picking you up, expect a long conversation that you don't want. If your crew can go through rookie orientation that would be better. Don't forget to fill in your crew about where you might turn out if you have a problem, left or right. Drive the crew down and show them the shut off area so they know where the heck to pick you up.
Once they start running from the rookie line, every fourth vehicle will be from there. That's roughly 8 minutes. If you are three back you have about 24 minutes, but at three back you better be ready to RUN. If you hold up the line it is frowned on.
First pass has to be under 150. Between 125 and 150 gets you your "D" license. If you are a fraction over, no problem. If you are a lot over BIG problem. If you have a chute you have to use it. A high dose of caution is expected no matter what your credentials. Shut off in the lights. If you are under power past the finish then they figure you didn't listen very well. You will drive down to the finish on Friday during rookie orientation to get a good look at it. After the run and your heart gets down below 10,000 beats a minute, drift over to the starting line trailer and pickup your timing slip. If it meets licensing requirements, see DW for your license.
Failure to comply with the requirements of the Rookie Orientation process shall cause the rookie to be banned from making further runs at that event and require going back through the rookie orientation and successful completion of the rookie requirements again before being allowed to continue to compete at future El Mirage events.
If you haven't seen that line, then read the El Mirage procedures:
http://www.scta-bni.org/SCTA-NewWeb/El%20Mirage/ELM%2007/El%20Mirage%20Procedures%2007.pdfYou can run from the rookie line both days to upgrade your license. You can't make a second run until all vehicles have had a chance to run once. Once the second round has started you can line up at any time. No records from the rookie line. If you have made the first pass from the rookie line and want to try for a record, assuming your license requirements have been met, you have to line up according to your line up number, meaning dead last in lane #2 or #3 for your second run. There is an official at the end of the lines to help. Being at the end of the line for a second run frequently means the wind blows out the event before you can run, so don't be surprised.
Relax, chill. Take your time, ask questions. If you have ANY kind of problem ask for help, there will be a bunch of instant friends at your service.
