Early this year Jack Costella and Cliff Gullett formed a partnership to develop a motorcycle streamliner that would allow for interchangeable engines. This machine would then begin an odyssey to achieve 16 world land speed records enroute to a run culminating at over 400 MPH and becoming the world's fastest motorcycle.
Jack Costella is a living legend where streamliner design is concerned and Cliff Gullett is a committed rider who had previously set 10 world land speed records on his Yamaha Road Star Warrior and on a Kawasaki Vulcan 2000. He had previously raced stock cars, so speed is a way of life for him.
On only the fifth run in the new streamliner, a world record was set in the 350cc gas streamliner category at Speed Week. The SCTA record, which was set in 1971 was 180.814 and the Costella-Gullett streamliner ran a 192.408 for the new record.
That record was backed up at B.U.B. with an AMA record in the same category.
Attached will be some of the original build photo's for you to review, as well as a number of photos of tech inspection at Speed Week, some running shots of the liner and more. Hope you enjoy the photos, and that you will follow this Quest for Speed on the Race website at
