Well, we certainly don't want to do that.
Have a nice day.

According to Vizard (who recommended retard as a turbo launch device), more or less paraphrased: "an engine with its spark set ATDC won't produce enough power to keep itself running". Remember that wick carburetors with automatic intake valves used spark advance as the throttle and kill switch.
The turbine will see a spike in temperature (so will the chamber) and may spool up, but the power will go wayyy down. Whether it's safe for prolonged use is another matter - the temp may go up far enough that you have a diesel the instant the spark is advanced - and KR won't help.
What would be a safe way to reduce power? Dumping exhaust spools the turbine down, dumping charge drops the manifold pressure - both induce a lag in power-on mode.

How about releasing nitrogen into the compressor inlet? It's (relatively) inert, cheap, harmless, non-toxic, and makes a nice buffer against detonation. You'll still have boost, temperature will be better, turbine won't slow down as much since there's still hot exhaust volume. It would enrich the mixture but without adding fuel, so less after-burn in the turbine.

You guys are making it harder than it really is...
