I met Donnies dad a few times when I was running a Howard head on my GMC. He seemed like an allright guy from the little I could tell. And I know that to some people $600 may be a lot of money. Maybe the differance between a place of your own and a cot at the shelter. So I don't want to jump to judge.

Ron, I don't have the rule book with me right now, but I believe Rich Fox has the record I will be running against somewhere around 168 mph. Is that about right, Rich? Cya

If you are running in XO/BGAlt that is the record I set in 1980 @ 168.200. Don't believe anyone else has run in that class since. Should be a getable record.

What dimensions, general config etc. for the exhaust is sussed out so far?
What is size and shape of the exhaust ports now?
How big are the valves?

Panic,
I'm running the stock #983 head with minor porting. The biggest gains were from the 2.02/1.60
SB Chevy valves and a lot of combustion chamber work. I still haven't flowed the exhaust ports yet cause one of the guys cleaned the flow bench and it doesn't work now. I'll try to get it fixed and calibrated this weekend. I opened up the intake ports to the size of the alignment rings and just cleaned them up.

Based on intake flow numbers (260-265 cfm) the head is flowing enough to make the HP I'm looking for. However, the exhaust is a big unknown at this point. The last time I flowed it max flow was in the 150 cfm range and flattened out about 0.500" lift. That was one of the end ports. I'd like to see 175-180 cfm then try to get a good working header. I still haven't determined what the best header configuration should be. The shape of the exhaust ports are very close to stock, now much has been done to them yet.

Ron

Rich,
Did you ever dyno a NA 302 GMC? I'm curious what the TQ & HP was.

Never did. Never ran the turbo GMC on a dyno either. I used up every junkyard Covair turbo I could find running the thing on the salt. Cracked a few heads while I was at it.

Rich, when you ran a turbo GMC, did you push through an intercooler and blow through carb?  I was going to turbo and efi, but have changed my mind on the efi. I can't trouble shoot the efi. Now thinking about blow through carb. What do you think??
