I replaced the 392 with a 363 inch Packard. That should work.

But will it up shift to top gear while reversed like a real one ?
"El Tanko" that I had for awhile in HS had a reverser in the tranny instead of a lamo reverse gear.
You can't get me to say how I found out either, my dad knows and he would never tell me what happened to the car after he saw me.
I think I probably still hold the State Route 94 speed record in both directions, headed East. and goes right by the "Cave".

After nine years with the "Early Olds" in the Stude, I decided to get a little more serious with a Dart Big Block Chev, injected on Alky/Nitro and see if the cajones are still in place.  Have no fear, the Olds should be back in it for the World Finals and I hope to top its best of 219, which ain't to bad for a motor designed in 1947 in a 4500# car.
p.s.  with around a dozen passes on alky/nitro over 200, the Olds has never broken, but the bearing thing is a whole different story.................

Make sure it's a 3-20. If you think leather is hot, try all the other fire stuff.

Who ho, I just hit the magic 200 posts. Now I'm the big boy. From what I understand that means that finally at least 5 per cent of what I say will have 7% credibility. Or maybe not

Jack, don't know about your state route 94 record, but we ran over 200 on   US 97 in 1984. Have the pictures etc. to prove it.

Well it wasn't 200 for sure but was sort of a  backup run with the bonnet in the rear.
Going the other way in the same direction was the 409 Cheby Impala SS, but probably no more than 150.
It managed to use a pair of Atlas Bucron tires every week.

No reverse at all in the Vega. Your record is safe.

Here is what I spent my time and money on.
1  New engine, old one 425 hp new 706 hp.
       2  New, bigger water pump.
3  Three quart oil accumulator with electric valve.
       4  New headers (bigger).
5  Reworked hood sides to fit new headers.
6  Made a mold and poured new lead ballast for front of car.
7  New push bar roller on back of car.
8  New push bar on the front of the dually.
9  New fuel regulator and plumbing (car).
10 Ordered a new Snow Performance methanol injection setup for the dually.
It is to be shipped the 24th of this monrth. This way I won't be ready to
           early.
11 Packed front wheel bearings,  changed oil in trans and rear end (car).
12 New deep trans pan and oil cooler on dually.
       13 Complete service on dually.
14 Built a new awning for the pits.
15 Made a mount for a big umbrella on the back of the dually. For those long
           waits in staging.

Well thats the things that come to mind. There is more to do in the next 4 weeks.

              See you all there  Vince

Documentation might be a problem.
1 became the Mayor of San Diego and was an atty and now talk show host (Rodger Hedgecock) also and another (his name escapes me) became Mayor of National City .
Both of them got the boot from politricks for side business.
I guess they didn't operate under enough tables.
The 3rd is in jail (Henry "Bunnie" Daniels) and we are not speaking because he tried to kill his wife on the same 94 with a bomb under the car seat right across from where My brother lives.
Tough crowd huh.

The difference is what time of day they want to take their nap.

Just have to ask-- what does a Packard have that a 392 doesn't -cept rarity ????{only  saw 1 Packard newer than 48 round here- they weren't big sellers}
speed is expensive-how fast do you want to go?-to soon old & to late smart.
