Retorquing your nuts! ----------- The Poll

My vote was related to Sum's character that shows a solid sense of humor in the face of some really nervous types.
With the the basis of knowledge that he demonstrates that is largely due to his own efforts, he qualifies near the top for construction methods and documentation  also

PS:
My vote didn't record yet but you can kinda guess.

The poll results were frightening. I'm the only one that supported Jack.
It sounds to me that he frequently gets torqued.

Ok since 5% of you think I'm a bad person, and I know who you are , I guess I'll work at getting a few more votes  :-D.

This question goes out to the nut torquers who responded to the "I only torque my nuts on my race vehicle".

I'm interested in knowing that if you believe in torquing your nuts on your race vehicle that only travels a few miles per year on a flat surface that is hard to transmit torque to, why don't you torque your nuts on your daily driver that is driven tens of thousands of miles over all types of road surfaces in all types of weather carrying you and your love ones and sharing the road with the rest of us????  8-) :|

It seems you should either join us non-torquers in the "I never torque my nuts" group or join the "I always torque my nuts" group.  Quit straddling the fence and get on one side or the other .

Seems like there should be another question in the poll:  I torque some of my nuts (and bolts) all of the time and some I never torque.

For general information.

About a year ago I was at Costco and while walking by the Tire installation area I noticed a guy using a torque wrench to tighten the wheels. I asked why he was using a torque wrench, and he told me because of a lawsuit. He said that as a manager it was his responsibility now to check every car that went out of the shop.

In the big picture what is probably more important when putting wheels on a car is to not get distracted. The older we get the more we forget. If you are putting on a wheel my suggestion would be to complete the operation while at that wheel. Don't say I will put the others on then tighten them. Just a suggestion and only my opinion.

REALITY CHECK HERE:
Most things that actually loosen up on a race vehicle are in the hauler while enroute.

Good point.  I've never torqued my lug nuts, but did have a rear wheel/tire pass me once on a gravel road near my house in Wyoming.  It had nothing to do with how tight the lug nuts were on the pickup, but more on the fact that I'd never gone back to them at all and I can't even blame it on old age like I can now .

Les Shwaub Tires puts a notice on your rear view mirror after changing tires, requesting you to bring your vehicle back after 25 miles for a retorque. Never lost a wheel, but have had them come loose, especially on the 70's and 80's F-Series pickups. I now recognize the feeling pretty easily. Not sure I could tell at 300 before it was too late.

Richard I hope you at least hit the "torque my nuts on my race car" .  If I could ever or would ever run over 300 I think I would torque every nut and bolt I could find  :-D ,
