MPS-BG v. SC
« on: April 17, 2007, 11:57:58 AM »
Got my new rule book and am pretty badly confused as to which frame class I should enter.

Bike is an '03 GSXR 1K w/turbo

Previous to this year I ran MPS-BG.  The bike frame has been raked, and added swingarm extensions.  Still running stock tank and fairing, but all the other body including front fender, is custom and not replica of OEM.

I'm so confused.  Any advice appreciated.  Thanks.

Paul

What's the wheelbase?  If 111% or more of stock -- you're in altered.  Sec. 7.F, bullet #4.

Also:  7.F.12 (Modified):  "Replacement non-OEM fairings ... must be an exact replica of the OEM parts."  Not an exact replicas?  Viola, you're in altered.

Not much confusion in what the rules state.  Some feel there's confusion in why they exist -- but at least the rules are pretty clear in what they say.

You just described an A bike when you said raked and extensions.  Your bike book says it has a 55.5 inch wheelbase, unfortunately that is measured with the axle all the way forward, so your new wheelbase can only be 61 inches, ask me how I know...   :? mine was over length with a 4 inch extension before I tightened the chain.  Your 55.5 inch wheelbase is almost 57  :-o before you changed anything.  I asked if the 10% was measured from max stock and was told no, it is wheelbase listed by Suzuki.  Welcome to A unless you run Bub, then you are probably M...

Paul,

When I saw your bike at Bub's when you ran over 200 mph it was MPS-BG and would stay in the same class this year as you ran it last year.

SCTA will be different.

     .

PS. ever figure out what happened when you took the fairings off and the engine went south?

As far as fairings go, both stock replica and non-stock are allowed in M.  Where the stock thing gets dicey is if you exceed the 36 inch height requirement.  The only way you can run over that is if your stock stuff is taller.
Confusion in the rules, only if you read them!!!

OK, I don't have my new book yet, but I didn't see that in the changes...   :|

Tortoise, you been takin' French lessons from Jack, or what?  My mother taught me that "Viola" is a proper way to befuddle their minds, and see, you've proved it works.

One of her many aliases, I'm sure. But don't try to tell me you stepped in that shit on purpose.

Thanks Slim, I sort of skip read the part about the wheel base, was looking for numbers rather than %'s but I think that makes me altered.  (Sounds like something you'd do to a pet.)

As for what happened to my engine, the head broke.  Three of the exhaust valve seats were blasted by detonation.  The bottom end was sort of o.k., (the bearings were toast).  It was a damn fine 35 mile motor.
