Water Injection.......
« on: April 12, 2007, 11:45:49 AM »
Under 2.B Fuels in the rule book it says:

Quote
Water injection is allowed.  The water tank must be inspected and sealed prior to each record run.

Can the tank be inspected and sealed when we go through the initial tech inspection on Thursday or Friday???

Thanks,

Sum

Water injection should be treated no different than gas in the allowed classes.

Thank you Jack, or whatever your name was prior to entering the witness protection program.

Sum, no - you must have the water injection sealed at the time you add the gas. This also applies when in impound. You will have to present a sealed water bottle to top off the injection tank. I suggest bringing a case of 1 qt. bottles. Once a bottle is opened the remaining water cannot be used except for washing those dirty socks Jack talks about.

And I bet that he understands the variations in "distilled" water.

Barley and Hops are not allowed in the gas classes, only the spring water.

Thanks Dan.  So from what you are saying Rick will seal it at the fuel truck and he can also seal the 1 qt. bottles at that time if for some reason we need them??

Sum, I think you need a new sealed bottle everytime you fuel.

Sounds to me like Dan was indicating the manufacturers seal on drinking water bottles was satisfactory to show the water is acceptable. Once you crack the drinking bottle, you cannot top off the water tank from a used bottle at a later time,  it must be new - break the cap seal when you fill the water tank.

Was that correct Dan?

SPEED  SECRET:
Keep the unused portion and spares in the "Chilly Bin", the driver will likely want it for immediate consumption after a run.

It has been about 30 years since I used water injection, but at that time nobody that I knew bought water in plastic bottles to drink or put in their engine. I was required to take a sip of my water before pouring the rest in the tank. I'm sure that a simple sniff test should suffice.  RF

Sonna-va-gun it just happens that my new refreshing water has just come on the market. Factory sealed!

Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now.

:-D Well I'll try posting again. The first one just went "poof" and was gone!
Why don't we just have an APPROVED VENDOR supply the water for injection? Approved vendors could be SCTA, or the fuel supplier. That way everybody would be using the same stuff. And, the SCTA or fuel supplier could go buy the water from Wal-Mart, mark it up 200% and make some money. Or, they could fill up a bulk tank where ever (as long as it is approved for human consumption). Sell it by the glass or come and fill or top off your injection tank.
If I had it all to do over again...I would!
