K I Sawyer (Yeah, I know what you were trying to say) closed up about ten years ago, taking with it a nice 14,000-foot runway. They didn't "officially" close the runway, though, so we never got to play with it. Now it's been shortened to "only" about 12 1/2k feet -- and the county airport uses the base, now renamed "Marquette County International Airport". International? Well, yeah -- if you come in from out-of-county you are supposed to call ahead and ask them to call the customs agent, who'll get out of bed and drive down to the airport to look at your passport.
Sioux AFB? Well, there was Kincheloe AFB not too far south of Sault Ste. Marie (Soo, michigan, is how we pronounce it up here), and maybe that's what you meant, but that place has been closed down even longer than KISAFB. Chippewa County now runs it as their airport.
PS Carl, I chose not to dignify your comment with a response. But thanks for thinking of me...
Nancy and I used to live on the beach, and we look out the front window and see ice cubes bigger than some smaller states. This year's a mild winter -- the ice only extends about 20-70 feet from shore today.
