Bonneville Motel fire
« on: January 14, 2007, 09:54:02 AM »
There was a fire at the Bonneville Motel at 3:30am this morning. The news said 60 rooms were damaged.
I know it's still 7 months to speed week but getting things rebuilt in Wendover can be difficult at best.
If you are booked there you might start looking elsewhere. Good luck

Fire at Wendover Motel Under Investigation
A fire overnight destroyed several dozen motel rooms in Wendover at the Bonneville Inn.
January 14th, 2007 @ 5:26pm
(KSL News) A fire overnight destroyed several dozen motel rooms in Wendover. Around 3:30 this morning, someone staying at the Bonneville Inn heard an explosion, then the motel went up in flames.
Chief Kirk Petersen, Wendover City Fire Dept.: "It was engulfed when we got here, one or two rooms."
Forty to 60 rooms were damaged, but no one was hurt.
There are people who live at the motel; they will stay in other rooms or at another hotel in town. The cause is still under investigation.
Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now.
Just remember . . . It isn't life or death.
It's bigger than life or death! It's RACING.

When I stayed there 5 or so years ago the guy that had just bought it told me that he was betting on Nevada buying out that part of town from Utah and that he would be an instant millionaire with casino property. Thats not stated as a fact, just what I was told by the front counter guy. Since it didnt fly maybe the insurance was a better option. Then again maybe someone was smoking in bed , who knows

At supper last night Nancy and I were reviewing the day's stories -- including the conflagration at the bonneville Motel.  We had read the stories and watched the videos -- and both of us seem to remember that "three fire departments" assisted in the quelling of the blaze.

I can't find that tidbit of data again -- but if, indeed, we saw it -- what's the thrid FD?  I can assume Wendover and W. Wendover -- but who else?  Ely?  BLM?  Mining company?

Just thinking, and yes, I know, that's a dangerous thing to do on a Tuesday morning.

I was rereading some of the past messages and noted this one of mine. Didn't mean to sound like a smart a**. I don't have a room secured myself. Hope no one was offended.    SB
