I went the cheep route and bought me a pair of leather lace-up work boots that were 8" high. I reworked the soles on my trusty belt sander 'till I got them shaped like I wanted.
Worked great. Don't get any boots that have steel buckles or even steel arches. Something about the salt at B'ville...Everything rusts, Even Wood Rusts!!

I would check the rule book as long they are in decent shape they should work but the bottom line they are there to protect you.
