Tire replacement, when or why?
« on: July 16, 2023, 09:14:18 AM »
Looking for suggestions and advice on when or why to replace tires.  If they are stored in the right environment I understand they will last a long time.  However, at some point they do become less then desirable for use.  What criteria are you using to say your tires are not longer good for use and time for new ones?

Thanks,

Car or Bike?
Slow, fast, very fast or really fast
All of those are factors in your question.
LSR tires, probably when they start to show cords... BTW if you don't spin them they last a long time.

I replace the rear tires on the 222 Camaro when cracks appear on the sidewalls

The 300 mph frontrunners, when there's checking or cracking. Not sure if i have to but being safe.

We put black trash bags over the front runners and that seems to help as they have thin rubber on the sides.

Our rear FAT tires are a 300 mph  Nascar tire and have thicker rubber on the sides.

Goodyear tire will be at Bville in Aug and I hope to get some answers.

They'll probably go off of date of manufacture.
Most shops wont touch anything at or near 10yrs old.
I had some tires that were in great shape that I needed mounted for "rollers" . No drivetrain in the car but they wouldn't mount em for me.
Found a small shop and slipped him a $20.

Looking at speeds in the 200-250mph range, fast in my opinion, on a Lakester and a full body car.
