Ford 9in low ratio wanted
« on: June 22, 2023, 03:08:46 AM »
Hello experts,

I am looking for a 2.0:1 or there abouts to fit my Ford 9in rear axle.
Does such a thing exist and where can I find one?

I believe a 2.47 is the "highest ratio" available. Something like a 4.11 would be a low ratio. A lot of people get that confused, it's like high gear in the trans is a high ratio & low gear is a low ratio.

I stand corrected. Or at least, lounge on the sofa corrected!
I guess we'll have to adapt the plan.

Might take a look at this thread. Old but you never know: https://www.landracing.com/forum/index.php?topic=16489.0

2.30 gears available but was 2017. Worth a question. . Also look through this section for gear questions. 9" not the best for ratio selection and efficiency but is strong. Many people on the salt run small GM axles with success. Because of traction limitations breaking axles or r&P really rare. There are GM R&P down to 2.14 so close to what you are looking for. This thread on efficiency has a lot in it: https://www.landracing.com/forum/index.php?topic=3424.0

Only actual 2.0:1 I have ever seen and am no expert was in a Winters QC Extremeliner. Check with Joe Timney on that.

Also in one of these threads I saw and recall from somewhere putting GM 12bolt gears/carrier in a 9" housing. If that stuff is still available, then you might find gears closer to what you need.

Strange makes a carrier for just that purpose.

The 7-1/2" 10-bolt has seen some pretty serious HP on the salt & survived. The Torsen carrier is a stout piece that eliminates the major weak point that is the spider gear shaft & came in a 28 spline from Camaros & Firebirds. Series-2 does all the ratios from 3,08 up to 2.14 which is actually 2.136. The Camaro housing is also nodular iron, I have two of these in my liner. There is no spool available for them although there is a mini spool but you're still stuck with driving it through the weak spider gear cross pin. We ran 2.29 12-bolt gears in Al's liner with a blown fuel KB & never hurt them. They are about as rare as rocking horse $hit although I have 3 sets incase my KB wants to eat the 10-bolts. I have 3 spare 10-bolt Torsen-2.14 combos, that's 5 in total that all came from Fleabay for not a lot of money. If you run any banjo type housing it's well worth the money to put a girdle cover on it to support the iron carrier bearing caps.

If anyone needs/wants a nodular iron Camaro 7.5 rear end I have one for the taking if you come and get it.

WHAT SID say,  we are running  the 7.5 GM  Toreson  with a Liberty air shift-- but we control slip the clutch during shifts otherwise the shock would  snap the pinion shafts.  Love the setup and ratios available.

For what it's worth I have 2 sets of new 2:30 gears and 1 set of used 2:30.  Yes they are expensive but have never had a failure.  Put over 1,400HP to them.  I also have other ratios 2:47, 2:50, 2:75, 2:86, 2:94 stock ones cheap, coated and cut down a little more.  Will be closing my shop at the end of the year, and will also sell all of my Jerico gears and parts.  Call me Mike at 715-462-3817 leave a message if I don't pick up, always called back.

Are the 2.3 ratios for a 9" ford?  If so, send me a PM.  I may be interested in a set.
