Chevy Crankshaft
« on: June 19, 2023, 07:27:52 PM »
Years ago I bought a forged steel SBC crankshaft. I have been trying to identify it by its markings but I have not found this number on any Chevy parts list. As close as I can read it, it is: 1951628. There is a chance that the last digit could be a 9. Can anyone tell me what it is?

Naturally, your number is not on the list John B supplied. Measuring the journals, stroke and 1 or 2 piece determination would help as a start. And are you sure is forged vs cast?  Casting numbers can be hard to read too. Yah, I am no help but be interesting anyway.

could it be 3951628? that would make more sense to me
Records or parts, I didn't come all this way not to break something.

I took a very close look with a flashlight and it very well could be "3951529". the numbers are very hard to read.

If so, this makes it a 400 large journal crank. I measured the main & rod journals and they are, indeed 2.640" & 2.090" corresponding to the "+10" markings written on the crank. It is a 3.75" stroke and is a cast crank, judging by its thin parting line. A decent street SBC crank. Thanks, Guys.

The flange on the 302 crank is the same as my marine 283 crank.

I believe it is because of the forged pistons used in both.
