After myself and two of the most knowledgeable people on salt
conditions assessed the probability of having a successful World of
Speed it was determined that the USFRA would have to cancel the event.
Course number one was the only usable track. It was smooth and hard in
most areas but there were also some soft spots. There was water
running along the mountain side of the number one course almost to the
five mile. There is still some puddling of water at the end of the
access road and the salt is very soft, giving the USFRA concerns of
trucks and trailers becoming stuck when entering the salt flats. The
long range weather forecast is for rain on September 1st and 8th. The
forecast also calls for wind that could move the water around and onto
course number one. With the unusual lay out to find a place for the
pits, timing van, return road, concerns about accessing the salt,
unsettled weather and the damage that could be caused to the salt when
it is in this condition the UAFRA as elected to cancel World of Speed
With deepest regrets
