Yes sir! this is exactly what we do for the C4 with no converter. No Pump = fried rear bearing. We have the ignition On/Off switch set up to turn on the pump when the ignition is shut off. Pump runs from pan to pump to a tapped 1/8 NPT hole at the rear tail housing. Kinda tricky to drill the hole but doable.

You also run the risk of damage to internal bearings & the planetary with the rear shaft spinning. The best way to lube any trans in this situation is to pump into the line pressure test port & put a one way valve between the pump & port to prevent back feed when the engine is running. I also run a filter on that line before the pump to stop any "spare parts" getting in the system.
