I was one of the early DLRA members (#26 I think) from when I lived in Oz but moved to the US in the late 80's. At that time approval to run there had not been granted. Somebody else will pinpoint the exact date date but I think they'd been running for five years when we took the liner down there in 95.
Although Aussie is spelt with two S's we pronounce it as Auzzie then that got shortened to Oz.

There were many individual motorcycle Speed Records attempts in Australia in the early days, both on closed (and open) roads and dry lakes, some of these records were ratified by the ACU (Australian Cycle Union) as Australian Landspeed Records,, The ACU published a general rule book in which these records were listed,,

"Aussie", "Ozzie"(Oz) = slang for Australian  8-)

Do you have a copy (or know where one could be found)?

Particularly interested in 1916 and 1925.

Thanks for the quick response.

In 1916 Jack Booth is credited with probably the fastest one-way run up to then.  But very difficult to be sure how credible this was.  Plus it was a time when Europeans and Americans were a bit preoccupied (so any claim for a "World Record" would not have had much attention, let alone recognition).

In 1925 there was at least one event at Sellick's Beach where Paul Anderson may or may not have set some form of record.

Anyone got further information?

Took a while to find my way around that site, but think I've got it now.

Mostly vehicles with four wheels (fair enough), and the motorcycle pages look a bit sparse pre-WW2 (and possibly nothing before 1928?).

Is Greg on here?  I imagine he has access to other material that may not be reflected directly on the web site.
