Aerodynamics roadster bodies.
« on: February 10, 2023, 12:26:36 PM »
What is the most aerodynamic roadster body? 26-27 ford, 28-32 ford, 28 32 chevy, 33-34 ford. I have heard that the 33-34 ford is the best. ?

The two smallest are likely to be your best bet. Some say the 1923 T or the Austin Bantam. Carry on

you don't hear those two (roadster/aerodynamic) used together very often  roadster/brick is more likely...

I don't think the actual body of the 33-34 is better, but being able to legally rake the grill back a touch sure seems to be advantageous. In my humble yet un-factual opinion.
Records or parts, I didn't come all this way not to break something.

I don't think you can legally rake it back, but it sure happens in Street Roadster.  Along with shortening it.  And then there's headlights.  When there was conflict about using 5-in. or 7-in. standard headlights bulbs, they made the rule for 5-in.  And then they wrapped 5-inch plastic around the outside of the buckets and it was allowed.  No more side hinges sticking out.  No more doors overlapping.

I'm thinking the (regular) altered Roadsters are as close to being real Street Roadsters as some of the newer entries are.

Sour grapes?  I'm not at the table anymore.  But I think it's now fucked.

The ruling, of course, isn't the question, but who's asking it.

With any vehicle, the more stuff sticking out of it is going to create more drag so roadsters become a packaging challenge. A Bantam has clean lines but a whole bunch of engine doesn't fit inside one.
The 34 grill has a good leading center bar shape with the best transition into the hood & pretty clean flowing lines all the way down the body. The ducktail shape at the back of the model 40 body has to be better than the other roadsters that have square sharp edges but the biggest advantage I see is the upswept transition from the floor that is basically a diffuser minus the strakes. Having said that, it won't be worth a hill of beans if there isn't a flat floor in front of it! So many Bonneville cars (not just roadsters) neglect the floor like it's out of sight out of mind with all sorts of crap hanging down there like headers, oil pans & transmissions. It's like oil rigs, (cage's) some of them get up there! :?
It would be interesting to see some scientific data without all the protrusions that get hung on.

If you are planning to build a roadster and it is going to be a 33-34 then look up John Weatherwax in the "For sale" section and buy his 34 roadster. You will not be able to build a car as nice as this one and it has a NASCAR engine which I have seen on the dyno make a true 850 hps. This car will run very close to the C gas roadster right off the trailer.

Cant believe that car has never sold!! C/GR class is dead, Ed Renck has pushed the speed out of this world (258 and change) and i think he may have a little more in the right conditions.

Johns 34 roadster is absolutely outstanding the only thing I would change is the front tires. Running Goodyear 2904 top fuel front tires in front would reduce greatly the aero drag. Thus adding to the MPH without adding any more horsepower.
