That looks so good! Who remembers the days when we needed to drill a hole at Bonneville to bang in a tent peg & then it took two men & a boy to get it back out of there at the end of the week?

It was too hard to yank out the pins or spikes we pounded in.  After 2 or 3 years I started using 1/4" carriage bolts and a hammer drill.  Way easier!

When we were drilling holes for the mile markers at the last event... 2018 I think, we hit some dark mix at about 18 inches.  It drilled just as hard as the top salt.  Mike Cook said he remembered when Bonneville was like that....

I found that patch a few years ago when I was checking salt conditions. The next year it had either moved or reduced in size but I was driven off the salt by a storm & never got to determine the real story.

Sid, we were drilling at the last Bolivia event.... The dark could have been part of the strata... some holes had it, some didn't... lots of salt in Bolivia... We did a 15 mile course with mile markers on each side as well as mile and Kilo markers

Saw Ralph do a 305ish mile at that one.

Sure would like to run my liner down there. Is Jim just running for time only or is there going to be an FIA rep there?

There will be updates on our website when the event starts if you want to follow it. Click on the News link on the opening page. The link should be up in the next couple of days.

Reg Cook was preparing 4 cars:

- One of them was a new 4WD streamliner aiming for the record for the fastest wheel driven car, according to his web site aiming for 550 mph
- Another was his existing streamliner, this time with 2-litre SR-20 turbo power going for the 2-litre record with target 600+ kph (380mph)
- He was planning to take a Mini, because he wanted the record for the fastest Mini
- He was also taking the Nissan NX coupe which holds a bunch the Bonneville records, including G/PRO, G/GCC and G/FCC. But according to his web site he was going to add a turbo, so I'm not sure what records he would chase with that one, perhaps the FIA 2-litre 10 km and 10 mile records.

In any case, he had a lot of problems not getting the parts he needed in time and probably decided it wasn't worthwhile taking the 1-2 cars that were almost ready. You can check CMR Bonneville on facebook for recent updates. Hope he can make it in 2024, good luck to the ones who are still going this year.
