Loring has a special place in my heart.  That's the first place I ran my Ford flathead powered Lakester after my son and a few friends worked a ton of hours turning an old air plane drop fuel gas tank into a race car back over 14 years ago now. I remember that first time I thought the car would run 200MPH heck how hard could that be boy was I going to learn a thing or two about going fast. That first time the top speed was 120 MPH!
Each year we ran the car at Loring we learned a little more.  Fast forward to 2018 and now the car as a rear engine roadster was a lot faster than the old Lakester days. July 2018 running our REMR set up as we run her at Bonneville we made history becoming the first ever roadster bodied race car to top 200MPH setting the record for the class even faster than many of the overhead late model engine powered REMR in the LTA record book.
On that run we learned some more then in 2021 we reset the record to 207 and then 208. This was a tune up for our Speedweek runs where we pushed our 196 MPH record to 205 MPH being able to run at Loring has helped us greatly to be successful at Bonneville. The speeds we can run at Loring are within a mile or two of what can run at the third mile at Bonneville.  Here's an in car video of 207 MPH Ford flathead roadster run at Loring. Sit back and enjoy the view of the coarse as we drive along.

Ronnie --

Do you ever run the five at Bonneville or are you all in on the three?

Stan we always have the car geared to run to the third mile  When we set the gas and fuel records in 2021 over 200 along with getting Jeff Arnett his Red hat the speeds we ran between qualifiers and backup runs starting on Saturday and ending on Tuesday were between 204 and 206 MPH. All together the four runs we ran a total of 12 miles.
Tuesday afternoon we decided to do a gear and jet change and put my son in the car to see what would happen if we ran to mile four. The results were at mile three the speed was 210 and at mile four it was 219.8.  Running another mile to the 5 might be possible but cooling the flathead is going to be the deciding factor. This year as long as we have a dry coarse the plan is to run to mile four for the record. If that works out then a five mile run might take place time will tell.

Photo from the inaugural Maine Event in 2009 showing the Scott Guthrie Racing Team. Left to right; Scott Guthrie , Shane Stubbs, Debby Dross, Todd Dross.  At this event Shane set the fastest ever sit on bike land speed record at that time - 265.181 mph.  Deb set the APS/F1350 record at 218.150 mph. Todd set the MPS/BG2000 record at 240.057 mph.  Team owner Scott is wearing his Bonneville Nationals 200 mph Club hat.  The 3 riders are wearing their newly earned Loring TIming Association 200 mph Club hats.

A nice smile from our photographer Stacy Robey.  She is sitting with Jesse Michaud in his historic 1956 Chevrolet Belair circle track car. We had the good fortune to have Stacy take 1000-s of photos at LTA events and make them available to everyone.

Tom -  I did a search but I cannot locate the photo of your first time out without the fairing.    You had the see-thru steering head,

Wasn't easy but I searched the archives and found a photo of Donna Timney leaving the starting line on SGR 1302.

Joe, this is the best one but I can't find out who this photographer is: dwphotosonline

If you or anyone else out there can advise, I would like to purchase a better copy of this photo.  His photos were online after the July, 2011 event.

In the staging lanes at the Maine Event in 2010 we have the Murray Bros Special. 327 Chevy powered #9373 was driven by owner and builder Andrew Murray.  It set the 6 liter / gas lakester (C/GL) record at 185.385 mph in the mile and a half.  He fabricated this car by hand from scratch in his garage. It was the Hot Rod Magazine featured car of the 2008. Andrew's concept was to design and construct a roadster in the style of a 1950-s Indy 500 race car that he could drive on the street.  It won its class in the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance in 2011. Andrew ran at Bonneville in 2008 according to the HRM article with a speed of 180 mph.

In the pits at the 2009 inaugural Loring Timing Association Maine Event is a Vincent Comet. This extremely rare motorcycle is owned by David Dunfey. #9140 was entered in Modified / Vintage Gas 500 cc / 4 stroke (M/VG500/4). Dave rode it to a speed of 94.239 mph. Vincent HRD produced Comet motorcycles from 1934 through 1955 when they ceased production.

Is it a more-or-less Single out of the V-Twin?

(That question might just show how little I know about Vincent and bikes in general.)

Similar to Harley Davidson Sportster/Buell XB9 and the Buell Blast.  Vincent made a V twin 1000 cc bike and they made a single cylinder 500 cc bike.

Unfortunately old age has caught up with my partner and me and I sold my rear engined F/BFL running a turboed 2.4 Ford SOHC engine. 17 year build was too long .I sold it to Marcia Barker who says she will run it in July in F/GL removing the turbo and computer. I also sold her my Bellytank which had been driven in the mid '60sby Jerry Kugel. I also sold her my 120" WB Chassis Research flathead dragster which my partner and I built in the mid '60s She also bought my 1946 GMC1 ton pickup with 9' pickup bed.The three race cars are being worked on as I write. A couple of years ago she bought my 46 GMC 3/4ton pickup which she is preparing to run the X/O PP class at Bonneville.
