Is the Best Western saltflat inn a survivable adventure during Speed Week/WoS/World finals?
Lots more rookie questions to come.........

If it costs $49 per night....NO

If it costs $100..........YES

There are two on the same plot of ground. If you can book it thru Best Western, it's the newest one and is very adequate.

Only if you already have a reservation for speed week. Most rooms are already booked for speed week. The other events are easier to get rooms. Speed week is still the best show and a place to learn what it takes. The weeks leading up to speed week will talk about everything you need to survive.  :-D

The question of survival is always open to debate. Any place that you can stay will at the very least bring great memories and good talk around the campfires.

Actually I threw SpeedWeek and World finals in just for the info.
I'm planning to be at World of Speed in Sept. for the 130 club --- (hope I haven't just descended into stepchild territory)
Anyway, would a 62 buck room for 4 days there allow me to leave with most of my body parts and no life threatening diseases?

Most of us would be jealous of that cheap of a room. Good job and make sure that it is confirmed.

OK - thanks - I'll go with that.
Like you said, it'll make good shop talk no matter what.

SPEED  SECRET
Find out when the regular tour bus gets in from SLC and get in line with  them to check in to the room they have held for them/you.
Tropical shirt and an overnight bag is the uniform of the day.
Once you are over that hurdle, 8 bodies in the same room is just about right.
If you get too many. the 3 day old socks with the feet still in them need more space.

"That horrible smell is dirty feet being held to the fire"

Cool ------ straw hat, big cigar, huge sunglasses, cut-off dress pants shorts, black socks, loafers, 35mm around the neck --- where's the party?
This what I've been living for, for the past 59 years. I am soooo there!
8 body max huh? That's 16 socks with the associated feet - hmmmmmmmm

The motel of choice by a lot of the guys/gals is Motel 6.  Me I sleep in this.....

............at the bend in the road.  You will probably be so tired at night you might not notice much about the motel you are staying in anyway.

c ya,

Roadtrip, most of the casinos are real cheap for weekdays--around 19.99,but go up for weekends by about 3X. Might want to check with a cou8ple of them as WOS does not fill up the reservations like Speedweek. Should be lots of rooms at this stage.
Bonneville 2001,2002,2003,2004,and NO stinking 2005,DLRA 2006, next?
Well, sure can't complain about 2008--6 records over 200 and 5 hats from Bonneville,Bubs, and El Mirage for the team!

Thanks again for the information. I'll give the Nevada side a closer look.
Really, I've been wanting to be a part of this since MT's Challenger (the original) was a favorite study hall art subject. I just don't want to fall into the category of stupidly unprepared. If I get most of the dumb stuff out of the way early, I can enjoy the whole thing and not get in anybody's way doing it. The first time won't be so much for the pictures and stories but for my own head.

Road trip. Where are you coming from, BTW there are two RV parks and the KOA has cabins.

Glen's right -- the KoA has "kabins", and Nancy and I stayed in 'em for years.  They're fine - everything but water/toilet -- about $60/night including tax, title, and license and you get a double bed and a pair of bunks.  Maybe less at an event other than SpeedWeek.  They'll almost certainly sell out of kabins by the 10th of January (for SpeedWeek) -- call there NOW, ask for Lucy (she's the manager) and ask if you can be on the list.

The KoA RV park usually sells out during SW, too, although not quite as quickly as the kabins.

Last year I got rooms at Super 8 around this time of year -- for about the same price as the KoA, and I hear they've got running water in the bathrooms -- better than walking 75 yards to the throne room.

Then there's always the ploy of calling the Red Garter Casino and telling them you want (the specified dates) and "No, I'm not a racer" -- so they give you the cheap price.  Tell 'em you're a gambler but not very good at it -- maybe you'll get their real low rates!

Oh, yeah -- I just reread your post and you say you'll be there for WoS.  Wouldn't hurt to get your reservations now, but shouldn't be nearly the hassle or the expense of SpeedWeek.
