I've made some mistakes.  I dropped out of law school to pursue a carrier in Automotive Engineering. But I stayed long enough to cover the reading of "contracts" and their " meaning".  My professor really hammered us on "INTENT"

Skip ahead to modern day. 5.C CLASSIC CATEGORY    The way I read it is, you can swap any engine into a 28 to81 car as long as there are no electronics that are going to change the tune as it travels down the track?
"Classes within the Classic Category are the equivalent of the Modified and Production categories with body modifications as allowed in those categories"  But "Modified and Production" allow DIFFERENT body modifications? Not sure of the intent?
If I choose to enter "A/CGALT" , because of ALT do I get to follow the 5.D.2  body rules?
Just what body mods can make? Just trying to avoid future mistakes.

KATIE.

Correct, if you run Classic Altered you follow 5.D.2
To answer the last part of your question no modifications can be made to the body proper. You are also allowed a 2% body stretch from the cowl forward.
With pre- '49 bodies you are allowed a roof chop as described.

Yes. The Classic Category limits engine management for the most part and vehicle production years.
All other class attributes are the same.

I don't think I got all the answers on CLASSIC/ALTERED, that I was looking for.  I'm looking for a specific recommendation on Classic "drip rails".  So please respond to the "POLL" at the top of this thread.
  Thanks, I appreciate your input.

I thought you were not allowed to , but the last sentence in Altered says the may be filled or removed.

Agree. but as I mentioned in other thread, the fact that the car is stretched ahead of the cowl 16" puts it in Comp Coupe, not Altered. The fact that it is Classic has no bearing.

I think that is Wheels777 with the 260z that is stretched 16".  The pole makes it sound like KATIE has a 55 something, maybe Studebaker?

Katie... the poll won't solve your issue.... Reading the rule book will.  Altered rules are followed in classic altered.
Altered rules say you can remove or fill drip rails... unless they change the rule at some future time you can do that.  Of course that would cause a major problem for all altered competitors so it would never happen.
If you go fast enough... or one of your competitors sets the record over 200 MPH then you will be installing roof rails....
Some rules seem hard to follow... in the book... if this then that... but some are clearly spelled out.  Drip rails in altered are clearly covered.... grind them off or fill them if you so desire.... but it is not required.

Remember rules can change over time... always consult a current rulebook

Sorry, my bad. However there continues to be the confusion that a Classic category car somehow follows different class rules. They do not. A Classic car has age and some engine/systems limitations (for instance, no non EOM EFI). The general Modified or Production rules are the same regardless.

Yes, that is how I have always understood it.  I have run Classic Altered and Classic Blown Gas Coupe.  I just follow the Altered rules or the Production/Gas Coupe rules.
