This is the remains of a truck tire they burned. It has really buried itself into the surface. I tried to dig it out with a shovel, didn't even touch it.

Well apparently the supply chain issue in this country has had absolutely no effect on the inventory of arse-holes available.
Records or parts, I didn't come all this way not to break something.

I'm surprised this is now a problem on the salt.  It's years old at El Mirage with the nails.

Should start running in a few hours.  We've got a few potentially very fast cars here: Target 550 (now un-blown) is here, along with Jim Knapp's (now A/BFS) streamliner, and the Burkdoll C/FS.  Kiwi Belly Tank brought his new AA/BFS in late yesterday.  It has electronic problems and won't run, but we'll be doing Tech on it today after the driver's meeting.  I'll try to post any significant developments later.

Hey Jeff, without pictures it never happened...  :?
Please fill in some of the visual gaps for those of us still trying to get our junk ready for SpeedWeek.

I don't think I'll be very busy with Tech inspections tomorrow -= I'll try to get some pictures then.

The good news: since we had inspected all the vehicles which were registered, I returned to Boise this morning.  The bad news: no pictures, sorry.
Even better news: salt appeared to be very good (dry, hard, and smooth) when I drove down it after the Driver's Meeting on Friday.  It was a bit rougher starting at the 5-1/2, but not bad.  They dragged it out to the 8-1/2.  We were advised that this course is the same one that will be this year's Long Course for Speedweek.

I can tell you that there were no high-speed runs on Friday - they actually were testing and tuning!   I spoke with Jim Knapp. Jim Burkdoll (youngest son, Tim Burkdoll, driving), and Korey Bligh (Target 550 Crew Chief) before I left this morning and all were pleased with their shakedown runs.   The 711 roadster sounded great, too!
