Hoosier 22 x 2.5-17 on Motorcycle
« on: April 06, 2022, 10:42:32 AM »
Hello everyone,

What are most people using for front tires in the lower CC classes? Looking at the Hoosier 22 x 2.5-17 but they do not recommend it for LSR. Pretty sure I?ve seen people running it anyways?

Just wanted to hear some thoughts on it.

Thanks

What is the target high speed of your bike? For most LSR bikes the Z or W rated tires are rated for up to 186 mph and many times have been used for well over 200 mph. You can get them in slicks if that is what you are after.

Shooting for 110mph. I have a rear tire chosen with an H rating so Im good there.
The Hoosier front  does not have a speed rating since its a drag tire. And probably for liability reasons, they dont recommend it for LSR. Was just wondering if anyone has experience running it, any issues with tech inspection, etc.:

We (Duke and I) ran them the M/T model of this tire on the front of our lakester, they were mounted on 17 x2.5 drag front wheel that have the proper motorcycle style rim required for these tires and we had one dismount at around 185. Maybe we didn't have enough air pressure to keep them on (I think we had them at 70 psi). We went to the latest Goodyear top fuel tire mounted on the same wheels and have ran 210 without a problem. George Johnson ran the Goodyear model on the rear axle of his C class lakester, front wheel drive, and the Goodyear engineer told him they would come of at over 275 and George confirmed that he was right! as he spit one off at 275.

Was hoping to mount one on a 17x2.15 motorcycle wire spoke rim. Im nowhere near the speeds youre running but Ill consider any tips to make things safer.
