USFRA events test and tune
« on: January 09, 2022, 03:13:22 PM »

Dose the USFRA hold any test and tune events prior to Speed Week?
Working in the shop I use the 'F' word a lot. No not that word these words Focus and Finish go Fast and Flathead Ford!

Well, they have done just that previously - in July.  Can't remember if they did one in 2020 or 2021, due to COVID.  There's nothing on their website about it now, but their dates for World of Speed 2022 are now posted there.

There were USFRA Test and Tune events in July of 2014 and 2017.

Not sure there has been anything since, although IIRC some years such an event has been planned but then not held because of insufficient entries.

See https://www.saltflats.com/past_events.html.

Weather and people cause cancellations... Last I heard it takes close to 50 folks to make the test and tune break even... and of course good salt.

It was discussed at the USFRA meeting last week. There is a possibility of having a test and tune but they Would need about 60-65 cars to make it a go. They are talking about possibly running 130 and 150 MPH club cars also to help make up the difference. Probably won't be a decision for a couple of months.

Thanks for the info everyone. Next question can a rookie make runs at the USFRA event that will get them a recognized license say D category to use at Speedweek?

I think that is part of test and tune is you can use the time to make licensing passes. It is only a short course though.
