Vintage is a totally different thing... I thought vintage rules state they are limited to technology of the time... but maybe that's classic... there are so many classes to keep up with... Glad the special construction rules are limited to outside or inside...

OK, thinking about bottled air... in my 1 liter motor.... running normally aspirated... turning a very conservative 10000 RPM at 95% efficiency would need 4750 liters of air every minute.  That's about 168 cubic feet per minute...
So we want 14lbs of boost.... so we need twice the air... more actually because efficiency will go up... but we will skip that.... 336 cubic feet of air
So all I would need to do is have 4 scuba tanks (80 cubic feet each at 3000 PSI) to run the last 3 miles at 200 MPH....
All I need to do is figure out how to switch from NA to bottle... to get boost... oh and maybe a place to put 8 scuba tanks because I need to do 11500 and another atmosphere to get close to the speed required....
So a 6 liter turning 7000 only needs about a 1000 CFM... NA  twice that to make 14 lbs... that's a lot of bottles in your roadster....
Oh, your math may vary....  but I think bottled air at Bonneville is impractical... El Mirage... maybe... still need quite the delivery system to make it work... makes the turbo seem easy

. . . not a math major, but it sounds like you'd need a bunch of bottles at El Mirage, too.  Put 'em in the back for traction, and there goes another trench maker.

Technology of the time!      Question what time would that be?
Working in the shop I use the 'F' word a lot. No not that word these words Focus and Finish go Fast and Flathead Ford!

In Vintage classes that would be pre-48.

Well, for one thing, this is all taking place on the "ECTA Rules Question" site.

But for SCTA, if you're talking Vintage Coupe classes, they require bodies pre-1949.

And then there are rules for Vintage Engines that can sometimes be up to 1959.

I can't find any Vintage rules that preclude 1948 components from the rules that have a 1948 cut-off.

One must be careful of opinions and falsifications caused by someone adding, subtracting or modifying the actual rules in the book.

Flywheel power!  Just attach a 1000 lb flywheel and take several minutes "warming up the motor."  I've heard they have tried flywheel powered buses somewhere, but never read about the charging method.

KK, Won't a mechanical capacitor put you in the electric class?  :-P
