G/GC record Unblown Gas Coupe "G" 2018 191.8 mph
« on: November 08, 2021, 01:21:38 AM »

Hello,

I was flipping thru the record book and was wondering if anyone could tell me what kind of car the "Kiwis" set the G/GC record in in 2018 ?

They ran 191.8  with a 2 ltr.    Were they running a Judd engine ?

Thank for any information.

I don't remember the exact model but the car is a Nissan coupe. Which I thought was not imported to US but am not sure.  The engine is a Synergy V8 built in NZ. http://www.synergypower.co.nz/  One of several around the world based on motorcycle superbike heads, most of which last I looked were not much beyond prototypes or only a few built. They had an ex F1 engine in their streamliner and kissed 300 a couple of times but didn't back it up so still held by Jim Knapp (F/GS). They now have a modified, blown all billet I think SR20 making about 1000hp to go in that car while they work on something to challenge George Poteet and Speed Demon.

The  the G/GC record is 193.550 now.

edit- I think it is a Nissan 2000nx.

It's a Nissan 240sx with 5 cyl two stroke, also 2 liter. I can't afford a Synergy- sorta starts at $50k, not that my engine was cheap but not like that...... :dhorse:

Not to mention it is just beyond cool... if you look up innovation in the dictionary, you will see a picture of Jack's car with the hood up at Bonneville.... in the impound

I'd sure take a link to pictures of the car and engine .....

Is there a build thread on the car ?

No build thread. In lower gears will pull to 91-9200 but falls off pretty rapidly there. Engine builder said should make 450. We had a two cylinder mule engine with my pipes, carbs, cylinders etc that made 183 on his dyno (I'm not sure it has ever been calibrated but his engines are top of the heap in their classes) so neighbor hood of 91hp/cyl. Pretty flat 85-8900 and then starts to fall off. Took some doing to attach to an automotive trans, work out clutch, shield, starter, adapter plate, you name it, not to mention fitting the pipes.
I'll attach couple pictures, may take several posts with the file size limitation.

Wow ....   That's doing something.   Congrats.

We plan on getting back to the salt with my dad in 2022 ( fingers crossed) with his Hot Rod Lincoln to run F/BGC  and a  Tbird to run the NA Esslinger in.  We should be able to add 10-12 mph to the F/GC record the Lincoln holds.

Love your car.

Jack:  I just love your effort with this engine !

In person, I thought the pipes were a little
small for that application,
but what do I know about 2-strokes ...............

What is the base engine, and the
bore/stroke/displacement of each cylinder?

What was your best speed ?

Jack's engine is a true engineering marvel!! Just keep adding cylinders until you get the displacement you need. The crank is a "build up" style just like most two strokes, that is it is a series of plates and pins pressed together to make a crank shaft. Just think of the amount of engineering it takes to just get the crank together. Each cylinder is like a separate engine with its own crank chamber which is required for a piston ported two stroke. I think that the real limiting factor on this engine is the transmission. Two stroke engines can make big power (the last of the two stroke 500cc GP bike engines were making over 250 hp!) but as you make more power the power ban gets narrower and you need lots of gears to keep the engine in its "happy place". Jack could probably easily make 600++ hp but would need at least a 10 speed custom geared tranny. Not many of those laying around and if you did find one I'm sure you couldn't afford it.
Jack has done a truly fantastic job of building very interesting engines and set records. You should have seen his last one that had a Nissan IRL head on it! If 2022 is his last year I am sure we will all miss his outside the box thinking and his screaming engines.
