Vintage class engine modifications
« on: August 11, 2021, 10:37:33 AM »
Hi, I run a 1954 bike in the M-VG class and want to push the performance of my bike further.
The rule book isn't overly prescriptive which is both encouraging but not overly helpful.
Would anyone know if it is permissible to weld additional metal to the OEM crankcases so that larger transfer ports could then be machined in for example, same with the OEM barrel, can I "Add metal" to allow more aggressive porting to be achieved. I did see a Russian bike on the salt some years back that had added reed valve induction to a Vintage motor, from memory.
Any constructive views would be most welcome. Cheers Ian

I'm going to guess no, you can't add metal to allow a different port shape. But of course the folks to talk with are the SCTA bike techs, like Russ O'Daly: rodly@roadrunner.com   Cheers, Dean

Just to conclude this, i had a very informative communication with Derek McLeish of the SCTA and now i fully understand the vintage rules, and they are fairly generous it has to be said, so significant modifications can be made
