New Electric M/C aero design is .11 CD
« on: June 27, 2021, 03:25:39 PM »
Check out the new design of electric bike going for an LSR record. The bike has unique aerodynamic design that has been measured at 0.11 CD. A Suzuki Hayabusa has about a 0.36 CD. The trick is that the bike has a hollow tunnel running from front to back.

Looks great. I hope we can see it run at Bonneville. The only problem is that both wheels have motors. Maybe the rules can be changed for electric bikes.

Hard to believe that Cd is so low considering all the extra surface area.

MIRA or no MIRA, agree with Koncrete, the real world is going to enforce a considerably larger CD.  Hope they are not counting on 0.11 to get to their record.

Whilst the bike is shown in the MIRA full sized wind tunnel, I have seen written comment that the 0.11 drag coefficient figure was derived from earlier Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) work on the design.

Does 180 degrees of the front wheel need to be visible or is that an SCTA only rule?

I'm googling more like .56 for a Busa. .11 is in streamliner territory.

.11 is sort of tough to believe since that is in the range of "Military projectiles".

There are quite a few "lumps and bumps" on that thing pictured.

BUT, WTH do I know.   Any data to post?

The front fender is legal for FIM, rule states it must cover no more than 180*, this bike has hub center steering :|

I agree- really good streamliners get to that range. I wonder if the reporting has confused CdA numbers and Cd somehow as the frontal area is of course small.

.11 + 1 fingerprint, decal wrinkle, paint run, open seam, etc. = .115
