new to Loring, not LSR
« on: May 16, 2021, 11:20:57 AM »
Thinking about entering the July 2021 event at Loring. I have been racing at El Mirage for the last 4 years. I have a race bike with SCTA log book, and a class D license (<150) with the SCTA as well.

I have read the LTA rule book, I only see minor differences (it is clear it was spun off a few years ago and they have diverged slightly). Obviously I will have to take rookie orientation, but is my license valid? Will I have to run out of the rookie line (if there is one)? More importantly if I get the speed, can I take a record my first event?

thanks,
Mike

During the rookie orientation you can show them your prior license which may be used to determine the speed steps you will need. There is no restriction to rookies getting in line to make runs plus you will find there's plenty of time to make runs during the event.  If you get up to speed you will be allowed to set a record at the event.  You will find the LTA crew are a great group of people who want to see everyone have a good time, be safe and go fast.

What Ronnie said....

Licensing steps for bikes are 125, 150, 175.  If your machine is capable of < 150 mph you would be required to do one +/- 125 mph pass.  There's typically *lots* of time to get as many runs in as you'd like.  We always do a rookie orientation for new racers to Loring, the goal being that you understand the facility and how everything works.

Hope to see you in July.

I didn't see a "procedure" document, but I assume you are not allowed to ride/drive your race vehicle back to the pits, and that you need a chase vehicle and crew?

You don't need a chase vehicle.  You can ride your race entry anywhere you like. If you break the LTA does have a recovery trailer to get you back to your pit.  There are many that are alone racers with no crew.

I sent a bunch of $ to "iron age auctions" via paypal to cover registration. I assume this is legit?

Yes, Iron Age Auctions is what shows up when you register. That is what I have seen when using Pay Pal the last few years. I have been running my bike at Loring for the last 8 years and have found a way to make it faster each year. The crew that runs the event are the best! You should have a great time and get in more runs then you would think possible! Welcome to the Loring family!

It takes me 39 hours to drive to el mirage. The 13 to Loring seems like a bargain.
