Antique car part needed
« on: March 10, 2021, 06:20:47 PM »
In desperate need of a left front fender for my 1917 Buick model D35, any repairable condition.
I wish I knew which other year/make fenders are the same, but I don't. I studied a picture of a 1921 Buick which appears to have front fenders identical to mine.
Thanks

Jack, I just looked in "The American Car Spotters Guide". It starts with the 1919 Buick and it looks like they kept that basic shape up through 1927. I can't tell about detail or the crown going from side to side. Cadillac might be a possibility as they were both part of the GM family since 1908. Is there not a Buick owners club?

Found this for sale on Ebay.  Listed as 1919 Buick Torpedo Relica.  May be worth reaching out to the seller and see if they might have the take offs?

Thanks guys.
I recently joined the Early Times Buick Club and posted a 'wanted' ad, but no response yet.

Have you tried Hemmings Motor News, or Buick Club of America

The fender on Ebay that the seller says may be a 1917 Buick looks a lot like the Buicks on Google .

I didn't find such an eBay listing. Can you provide a link to it?

A member of another forum pointed me to a Miami CraigsList ad for a 1918 Buick parts car which has both front fenders. He has not yet answered my email; I'll try phoning him tomorrow.

Thanks Don. I suspect the seller was just guessing about the fender being for a Buick, since the shape is unlike Buicks of that era, at least the models D35 and D45.
I left a phone message for the seller in Florida; he has yet to reply to my email or phone message.

Jack,

Agree,  the wide range of application seemed strange, but thought it might be worth a chance.  I also have a 1920 vintage car (a Chandler) so I know how difficult it can be to find parts for older antiques.  best of luck

Don

Looking more closely at the 1918 Buick in Miami, I see the fenders are different from my 1917- somewhat crowned, where mine ane flat. Bummer.

Jack if the seller put paper under the mounting flange and pencil traced around the holes and mailed or faxed it to you you'd know if it was a Buick . Photos may lie about the exact fender contours .

Jack:

Hire some computer-savy kid to spam Craigslist in all major metro areas in "auto parts" - "Wanted 1917 Buick D35 LF Fender" with description and contact info in the text portion (CL hides email & phone number if properly entered).  Perhaps add some pics of your RF fender for anyone with fenders that they can't identify?

Personally, I'd run it fenderless on the salt.
