Speaking of riding it on the street...

03/21/2021 -
A bunch of other stuff happened... but most importantly, I removed the front engine - just in case I crashed - this way I'd only potentially damage one of them.
And I rode The Juggernaut for the VERY FIRST TIME!!!

She tracks straight and true, as evidenced by the "Look Ma, No Hands" in the video.

I love how you make things happen. I tend to worry about every little thing when I'm building projects while you on the other hand just plow on making things happen. I need to figure out how to gain a little of your attitude. I sure like your results!!!    :clap :clap :clap

Woohoo, nice hands off demo! I got the baby brother version of one of those oil coolers to run on my bike this year.

Chris!
I cannot wait to show this bike to you!  She's the culmination of my experiences in my short (6 year?) Salt Racing career.  Race-Learn-Rebuild, right?  :-D  Can't wait to see you on the Salt!

Pete

A land speed racing buddy of mine asked me the other day:  "How much is left on your List?"
To which I replied:  "I don't keep a list.  If I kept a list, it would be so long, I'd get dejected and give up."

I try to keep a general plan.  Some days I work on the big stuff, some days I work on the little stuff.  Some days everything falls into place and other days, I end up trying to solve the same problem a dozen times.  I know where I need to be in the end, how I get there?  Well, that's all part of the adventure, right?

I would've kept the hands off longer, but that single backbone smashes me right in my sternum! LOL!
 :?
Definitely need to build a padded plate that my entire chest can rest on.

I will be first to admit that I am running those coolers on LOOKS first, cuz they're like little twin machine gun turrets up there.  But - I was surprised that I was able to put my bare hand on the cooler as the bike is running.  They get warm, but disperse the heat quickly enough that I don't get burned.

Or develop belly fat. Works for me.

I had a couple FJ1200's in my earlier years. Great bike and great torque. They did have transmission problems going from 1st to second gear. It would pop out of gear occasionally. Used to drag race it a lot. 126 mph stock in the 1/4 mile

Shhhhh!
We aren't supposed to speak of that out loud! LOL!!!
 :?

But seriously, I was told that was an early model-year problem.  The 2 bikes I bought are *supposed* to be after Mama Yamaha fixed the problem with beefier parts.

I liked everything about how the bike rode with one engine, so I tossed the 2nd engine in to see how she handled the weight.
You definitely know there's a two engines, but she handles really well, all things considered*.

Note my u-turn to come back down the hill:    :clap

*still only powered by 1 engine - need to build the outboard bearing support/engine coupler still.

Taped some paper strips to the mufflers so I could show the viewers a home that I was able to get both engines running!

This was the first time that's happened, as I'm usually scrounging one part or another between the two engines because I'm too lazy to climb up into the rafters to get the other set of parts.  A curse of building a Double, I guess.

Well, I drug all of it down, installed both wiring harnesses, cleaned out the questionable set of carbs (which now run better than the "good" carbs), figured out how to run both throttle cables at the same time and b00m - SHE RUNS!  x2!

Engines coupled!
Now PLEASE note that this is just a mock-up.  I need to schedule time to get on a lathe and build the individual pieces square and true, but for now, I just needed to see WHAT I needed to make and figure out how I'll be making the needed parts for myself.

That said - Video #1 is rear-engine, driving the drivetrain.  Front-engine in neutral.
