Now that I've put some miles on the Prototype, here's my newest video that explains the direction I'll be going with the actual frame for the race bike.

No CAD needed, just good ol' pencil and paper! :)
Also gave me a chance to re-learn this animation software that I've had for a while now.

A couple more sketches before I get to bending some tubing.

This one has my idea for the double rear shock, mounted inline.

I drew this one before I remembered that I was going to go with a single 1.5" tube as the "backbone".
It's a neat idea though, to just use 1" tube for the whole frame.  Something I may come back to on a future build.

Finally! 8-)

After a zillion drawings and second-guessing myself for months, I finally make the first bends on my new Affordable Bender that Santa brought.  Enough messing with the Prototype, it's time to build the real frame for the race bike.  August 2021 is fast approaching!

Very good video featuring the Affordable Bender. I was looking at those too, but got the JD2 instead. I like that yours takes up less space and does not need to be bolted down. Thanks and keep bending.

Don,
If I had a bigger budget, rest assured, I would have a JD2.  They aren't the industry standard for nothing! :)

The Affordable Bender is light years ahead of the cheap HF Pipe Bender I've been using for years.  It opens up another level to my builds and I'm quite excited to experiment more with it in the future.  Next up are the 1.5" bends!
 8-)

Thanks for watching!!!

-Fran

More adventures with my Affordable Bender! :)
Bending the top tube for the frame.  A little trickier than the "simple" bends of the bottom/seat rails.

...and for my next trick, I saw the neck out of this frame!

HOKEY SMOKES!
Sorry for the lack of updates, I got on a roll here and realized that if I was to get the build on schedule, I'd have to forego the video-documentary for now.  So let's get up to speed "old school" style... with photos:

01/24/2021:
Decided why reinvent the wheel?  Used the rear of the frame for the 2 rear motor mounts and so I know the swingarm & rear shock will line up.
Bent a piece of 1.5" tube to the desired shape in my head, affixed the neck to the top tube and bolted up the front end.

Bent up the "bottom" frame rails... also what I call the "seat rails" and tack welded them in to place:

01/31/2021:

Phun with Photoshop!

Just to digitally check if I would have enough room up front for the 2nd engine:

02/09/2021:

THEN I got seriously serious!
Lined up that front engine and got'em both mounted up solid.

SUPER STOKED at this point. Glad to finally have her out and rolling on two wheels and two engines mounted!

02.20.2021:

Oh yeah.... what's next?  Oil Coolers!!!
I took a pair of "hot rod" frame mount transmission fluid oil coolers and mounted them on either side of where the gas tank is going to be.

This dual-cooler idea was one of the first that popped in my head when I was originally dreaming up the bike and I was so excited that they ended up looking BETTER than what I had imagined.   Yes, they are 100% form over function, but I have great confidence in their ability to cool at least as well as the stock oil coolers.

Built a gas tank.
Built a tail piece.
Hung an old cafe fairing I had hanging on the wall and immediately fell in love with the look.  Since I'll need a headlight for street rides at night anyway, I'm going to roll with it.  The fairing will not be legal for the class I'm racing at Bonneville, so you won't see it on the bike on the Salt.

You are making lots of progress! It really looks badass. AND you are going to ride it on the street? That would turn some heads. Good luck and keep going.
