50cc 4 stroke push rod sidecar record
« on: December 10, 2020, 10:42:48 AM »
Hi Guys!
My name is Shelton, I have built and raced bikes for 45 years. We currently run Superbikes etc in CCS/ASRA and this year Moto America. I have wanted to try land speed for a long time. As a starting point, I have access to a 1962?ish Honda 50cc push rod. Is there a class for it? If so what is the speed?

Classes, rules and records vary with the location and affiliation of the venue you will be running.  Which event are you aiming at?

You might think about the SCTA web site for rules, classes and records. Also buying a rule book and membership.

According to the 2020 SCTA rule book the 50cc pushrod sidecar records are 46.333 for gas and 45.886 for fuel.

Since you are a bike guy it might be better to enter BMST which is a national AMA record rather than SCTA. You can also go after the world record (FIM). Get the records and rule book here:

Good luck!

Looking at AMA records it looks like there is an open record for your class which would be SC-PP (Sidecar Production Pushrod) or SC-PC (SideCar Production Classic (pre 1981). If you want to get fancy you can also turbocharge it. There are also classifications for various iterations of the engine such as fuel vs gas.

Hey Shelton,
Welcome aboard.
I moved from 750cc Production (frame) Production Push rod (engine)  to 50cc SideCar.
Ran in both fuel and gas classes. El Mirage and Bonneville.
I like the 50cc Honda (Cub?) engine and am considering building one for the bike (The Weedwhacker) after I use up all my potential with the Motori Seven 50cc L6a.
Good luck, stay safe.

Thanks so much guys!! That?s a lot of info to work on. I was chatting with a guy a while back, and he mentioned an event that happens on an airstrip? I think it was in Tennessee or around there. Anybody know what the event is called?

The ECTA (East Coast Timing Assocation) runs pavement landspeed racing in Blytheville Arkansas. There's also LTA (Loring Timing Association) in Maine.
How about adding your location to your profile here?
