Be aware we're in 'preview' mode, the site is NOT 100% back.  It's been transferred to a new host and will be back 100%, hopefully, today.  I'm surprised to see this traffic on the forum.... but it's folks that skip the site home page, come straight here.

Things put on the forum now may well be lost!   Admins get a "theme" error, and the attachment path is messed up, it looks like.  Easy to fix, once the site is really up for good.

Thanks Bob for your tireless work on the site. We all appreciate it. Years ago I saved the Forum to my Favorites list and just use that link to come to the site. So I am one of the ones that skip the home page when coming to the site.

Thanks again,

Tom G.

Looks like we're up!  If you go to the site home page and see the El Mirage timer, that's the 'new' site!  The old site doesn't have the timer anymore.

WoooHoooo!

I figured your server was hacked by the Russians during the election.

Actually, it was a business screwup by a hosting company that stopped valuing their customers, and (I think) got too big and impersonal.  Explanation coming by and by.

If you feel comfortable let us know who the old host was (and maybe who the new host is).

Two of us administer a much smaller forum and we have had some significant issues with both our current and proposed host.  It is so sad that these companies have forgotten who got them to a high level of accounts.

Sure, without going into the saga of what happened....  the old one was 1and1/ Ionos.  I've been with them for about 14 years, lots of domains/sites, no problem.  But then something changed, and this site got shut down, and another site I do got shut down because of a credit card change... with no warning.

The new host is Host Gator, which got good reviews.  Their support has been great, you might even get to talk with someone in the US (!) but even the Filipinos have been MUCH better than 1and1.  They really wanted to help, and they did.

Slim might do a writeup, but he has a broken wing now (wrist surgery), but there will be one coming.

FWIW I have had good luck with hosting of my website by Linode the past few years, after giving up on $$$Rackspace$$$. Linode has a rep for great uptime and they are very responsive. My issue these days is that SMF is getting pretty long in the tooth. The latest bug on my SMF forum is that it won't send activation emails to new registrants.

Yup.  I'm a Luddite Web Guy (?) and have had lots of problems with having to "upgrade" constantly.  Then you hit a Major Upgrade that requires a major rebuild.  And I've seen NO improvements for about all of it.
