After I read where Bob Dalton said Speed Demon would be returning to the salt next month for USFRA’s World of Speed meet to try to regain the unofficial title of “World’s Fastest Piston-Engine Car”, I did a little research
Despite an absolutely amazing record of past performance, it looks like Speed Demon was shutout – apparently for the first time ever – at Speedweek this year.
Here’s a list of their Speedweek records that I found:
2008: F/BFS
2009: Hot Rod Trophy
2010: D/BFS & Hot Rod Trophy
2011: C/BFS & Hot Rod Trophy
2012: D/BFS & Hot Rod Trophy
2013: C/BFS & Hot Rod Trophy
2014: rained out
2015: rained out
2016: B/BFS & Hot Rod Trophy
2017: A/BFS & Hot Rod Trophy
They set several FIA records during these years, too.
Did I miss anything? I couldn’t find any info as to whether or not they ran in 2007, which may have been their first year.
In any case, I’ll be there working at WoS and am looking forward to see what happens. Perhaps a few others will show up, if for nothing else but to do shakedowns in preparation for Cook’s FIA Shootout which starts a couple of days later.
