Muroc Color Video – 1941 and 1996
« on: March 29, 2018, 03:33:30 PM »
Not El Mirage, but Muroc.  Hard to tell the difference in this superb color video produced by the late Huell Howser, California's acclaimed documentarian, travel guide and television personality.

Interviews with Wally, Scotty, Mike Waters, and more – including color footage of pre-war meets.  A jewel of a video.

. . . no other comments?

I think this is a pretty neat video.  I understand it won't be available long at this address.

I remember when this event was announced - read about it in Hot Rod.

I thought about heading out for it, and then decided, "Nahhh, I'll wait until next year - they'll do it again."

So much for MY crystal ball . . .  :|

Thanks for posting it up.

They did do it again, 5 times, the last in 2000. Russ got in the Muroc 200MPH club that year in our modified. It was really dusty that year, there were times of up to 30 minutes long when you couldn't see twenty feet.

Hey Stan, Thanx for cluing me in on this. Sounds like Scotty and my old man were running about the same thing before the war. Bill Carey was a mere shadow of his current self...

Yes, Muroc, My first driving experience, picked up a "C" license on the last day... Met Dan Warner for the first time...Very dusty event, the dirt is very different than at El Mirage.
