Well...the first record was last year during SW with Stainless on the wheels when the 2.0 done his maiden run....

so 2 records this year....

I'm more than happy to see how the 2.0 perform on the salt....

so it was worth all the sweat from Stainless and several members/friends of the Bockscar team to built the 2.0

We are back home and starting to clean stuff up.  The damaged parachute is already on the way back to DJ.

We had a  good year already.  Jon Amo finally a Red Hat... third time was a charm... 221.954
Then my youngest son got in the car... that conversion shows both ends of our driver spectrum... Jon about 5'7"  and 160lbs to James 6'3" at 225.

James was a previous record holder on our open motorcycle... Dad started him on our normal new driver routine... first pass 138, next 168, next 193 then a 226... pretty much the standard license up routine... with the every pass caveat... "drive only as fast as you feel comfortable"...   His A pass turned out to qualify in 2 miles just like Jon... The back up in the morning slowed down a little although he had a 210 quarter.... ended with a 224.223... looking at the data, the turbo air temps were up, pulling timing out, thus reducing power.  Investigation to follow. But a larger intercooler is going to be required...

So here's our 2 proud drivers

Decent!!  That's quite the car, just like the old one.  Forgive me for not knowing, but how many drivers have driven the Bockscar (both of 'em) to a red hat?

Best of all is the team that's worked so hard for so many.  You guys are the greatest! :clap

Well Jon I think we have 8 Bockscar team members that have entered the club... Not bad for an open wheeled car that's never run a motor larger than 99.5 CI.  We have a couple more that we would like to work on...

We were blessed this year with good salt, something the strip mining has prevented for quite a long time.  :x  but I guess mother nature worked harder than the strip miners... the salt isn't thick, but the mud below it must be smooth, dry and hard because it is supporting our thin layer of salt...

Well,

if my statistic is right....the list looks that way....for the red hat

Original Bockscar

1995 John ?JohnBoy? Gowetski      221.183 mph
1996 Martyn Sutton                       204.569 mph
2001 Robert ?Stainless? Steele     228.039 mph ? 230,653 mph
2009 Nick Sutton                           222.110 mph
2011 Corey Goodson                    233.119 mph
2012 Thomas ?Pork Pie? Graf        202.800 mph

Bockscar 2.0

2021 Jon Amo                                221.954 mph
2021 James Steele                        224.223 mph

two other dedicated driver are known

Barc Goodson....he drove several license run and than he stepped out
Travis Sutton..."you guys are all nuts..."....he never drove

JohnBoy and Stainless set several other records after they became a member of the 2 Club....only Stainless pushed his record further than his membership record

JohnBoy's 221 mph in I/FL is today still a tough number....no idea how he could be that fast......he had to be the night before in Mexican restaurant for lots of beans....

Nice going "Stainless and son"  :clap . Good to see you in impound, sorry didn't have more time to chat. With all the time in line, it seems there is never time to say Hi to folks elsewhere. Congrats on your records.

Congrats guys!   The Bockscar is surprisingly small in person, was great to see it in impound.   I couldn't believe how small the front tires were.

Jack, I failed to pay attention, how was your return?  Yes it is hard to believe you are there for a week and never have time to sit and talk.... I sent the kids and Jon over to look under your hood... then we talked about innovation and Bonneville.

Bam... you should have looked us up in line or the pits... of course we don't usually spend much time in the pits, but you could have also noticed how small it is inside.... we let kids of all ages sit in it.
Don't be shy... Here's a future racer... you can see it in his eyes... Dad's cell was already dead from taking tons of pics so I took it and sent it to him

On both our record runs, returns a bit slower than the down runs, with no changes and not much DA difference so unexplained. But got two records with best speed 196+  :)
re: time in line. Were >8hrs in line Monday. Was #1 to go and they closed the course. Went to course 2 and sat several hrs more with no luck. Slow, slow, slow. Many crashes etc.

Our returns were also slow... maybe the salt was damper in the morning?

We are not sitting on our laurels... been working on the car for WoS.
First I decided to run in the Fuel class... may have even entered in that class, don't remember, but I started by mixing up a little E85.  One of my local stations has E98 and we can get Sunoco 110 at the race car shop.... so a little creative blending and I have E85 to play with on the dyno.
I also built an adapter so I could put a degree wheel on the motor while it's in the car.  Then degreed the cams again, I suspected they were a couple of degrees out based on the hard to read little timing wheel on the crank and they were.  Changed oil, I'm sure it was almost worn out... full synthetic BG diesel oil with almost 60 miles on it....  hard to tell it from new..... never fear environmentalists, it will find its way into Johnboy's coach.  Pulled the pan, clean as a when I installed it after the rebuild.  Checked the motor over and it appears ready to go again.

One issue we always have it keeping the driver cool... yes I have a cool shirt, but early morning runs don't really require it unless someone has an issue in front of you... We saw a car with a little battery powered fan... another good idea stolen...

We are always trying to involve youngsters in racing... Corey's son Weston is starting on the path to Bonneville... he has a Jr dragster, and has been in the Bockscar too many times to count.... always eager to climb in and make those varoom varoom sounds...
