Yea we might have used up all the good in that one.... it had teeth at the start of the run....

So Pork Pie, would you suggest something like "I have the 2nd fastest mile at 245 but still only have the 4th fastest record".... maybe I should just quit after the first part...
When I ran 245 with the 84 inch motor I thought that was too fast for the car old Bockscar.... and looked forward to the new car and trying to get back to that kind of performance....
Goals for next year... same as everyone else... go faster than last year....

On another subject
I don't wish the dry weather on Utah, but if it keeps the strip miners from being able to ruin Bonneville.... Maybe another year will run them out of business....

Stainless,

you can't compare the original Bockscar with the 2.0....

the old Bockscar was in his original shape so fast as the 2.0....see JohnBoy's 221 mph I/FL record....later, when modified...he had some handicaps to go faster....

your 2011 WoS run was really a good run....

however.....seeing your note....oh yeah....this wonderfull memories....this good old time..... :friday

just thought....a little update as our future is the 2.0......just so..... :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

and I'm looking for what we can reach with the 2.0.......

Getting the car apart and cleaning the pieces...
The sprocket is off... I emptied a mess of teeth out of the bottom pan and the sprocket has been changed for a 28.... because I had one.  The old one seems to be beyond reuse... the Kid may get it for Christmas.

We were told the roll structure does not meet the line in the book that requires the front hoop to be continuous to the bottom frame rail.  I thought I had 6 points of attachment, but they consider the 2 short tubes to be gussets so I only have a 4 point cage.  We are looking at our options...  A structural evaluation or chop in and add a leg somewhere.  That part starts about page 12 and goes on for a while.  :-(
I guess we will see what the evaluation needs to show... We might have a PE on staff, we will see.

That sprocket put up a valiant effort ( insert Mopar joke) How many runs did it take to do that much wear?
I`d never advocate drugs, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone...But they work for me.

Well it has been on the car for all the I blown runs.... and we've owned it for 30 or so years and used it previously... hell it could have 200-300 miles on it  :?
The first one we have changed for excessive wear.
I have to admit, I noticed it was showing its age during WoS, but I thought it had a few more miles in it.  Actually it only needed 1 more mile in it... but that's racing.
The 28 I put on has been used before as well... but it looks very good...
Now time to do some chain shopping

In my experience as someone riding Enduro bikes most of his life (40+ years) this kind
of sprocket wear only occurs when the chain is seriously stretched (aka worn).

Beyond driving a camshaft, I'm unfamiliar with the peculiarities of chain drives, but is a belt drive a viable option?

Or maybe an Eldorado transmission chain?

Of course, maybe it was just time for this sprocket to give up the ghost . . . those 200-300 miles weren't accrued driving back and forth to the Hy-Vee.

Well, I guess we're making a LOT of progress . . .

Technically speaking, chains really cannot do what we ask of them!

Here's a video we shot during one of the dyno runs.  The white roller on left is the tensioner...
