New intercooler is in and car finished up on the dyno using E85. The new Bell intercooler kept the input air temps under 107F... this allowed more timing and more HP.  I may need to change the timing of when water turns on and off but it is doing a great job.
The dyno session ended a minor catastrophe.  Was running 11K full throttle the motor was not cleaning up with fuel adjustment and it got louder...  Ross gave me the shut it off.... there was a small fire at the turbo feed oil line...  out quickly but some minor damage... it was the what caused it that is the issue.  The turbo header had a little issue, or maybe a big issue.  :?
Working on it.... talking to a guy that might have this header... in better shape.... I think it is an old Velocity part.

ALWAYS better to find problems on the dyno than on the salt.

That said - don't use it all up in the bull pen.

Oh man that's not good. Never seen a flange crack like that? No cracks in the primaries?  Velocity is long gone, if you can't fix it, you might end up with a new header, RCC in Canada makes nice ones for $750.

107 intake temps is unreal!

MM, the motor got 3 tuning pulls, no hero pull, we will do that on the white dyno

Dean, it cracked the header, caused the fire...  then all hell turned loose... but I have a header coming from Richard and a old Velocity coming from North Carolina both overnight... It is going to be a busy weekend

At least you finally get rid of that damnable aluminum clamp!

What has that car done for Dyno numbers in the past?
Last year 223.6 in fuel... this year 221.9 and 224.2 on gas, if I can get it going I will know more in 10 days.

White dyno numbers are the only ones that count....

Jerry, I don't know... but I have some ideas to get us through the year... I'll be happy if one of them bolts up...

I am with John, that aluminum clamp is a real POS! Can't believe it held so long.

Good luck and go fast at WOS!!

Yep Rex, the guy that thought using aluminum to hold an exhaust header on was a good idea was probably a bean counter...
Of course the short term fix is use the one just like it so there is a minimum of fab required.  The header from NC is the same unit.... well almost.  While it still has an aluminum flange, the spigots are shorter.  Not sure that's better, but the aluminum can't be pulled as far so it won't stretch like the other one did.  I'm sure it has a short life schedule based on the amount of heat compared to a motorcycle that is in open air.
The nice stainless one from RCC is close, but will require the winter to sort out.

I think the credit card is getting shy... every time I reach for it it try's to get away...  :dhorse:

In the old F1 days they used to use coil springs wrapped around the end of the exhaust collectors as clamps. Simple, cheap, and it allowed differential expansion as well as damping vibration.

We got lucky... the old velocity header  bolted up, everything fit, maybe as well as the last.  The car is reassembled and ready to put on the trailer tomorrow... Ross (mc2032) has been over helping get it put back together.  We lowered the back suspension about a 1/2 inch, so I threw it back on the scales to make sure the suspension is still balanced.... it is fine....
The tools and the racing containers are a mess.... it has been a hectic week getting the car back together.... we will sort everything out tomorrow, put the car on the trailer and the boxes in the truck and be on the road Monday morning.

Jerry, the short answer is the turbo hangs on the header... I have been trying to come up with a plan to hang it or brace it with something besides the exhaust header... If this motor survives WoS and maybe WF, I will be swapping the header for the new RCC, fabbing new pipes, changing to a more efficient turbo and hopefully figure out a way to hang the new turbo.

The good news is we seem to have a good tune on E85... it's always a good tune until it isn't... I'm mixing another 10 gallons up tomorrow so we will have about 20 gallons with us... enough for a dozen passes...
