Here's Mike Kaehny's Impound Insights report for the September '17 EM event.
September Impound Insights September 10, 2017
The first race of the Fall racing season fell on a weekend of expected stormy weather that never made its way to El Mirage. The forecast of rain and thunderstorms never materialized on the lakebed but the surrounding areas received quite the soaking. It did leave us with a headwind though and that kept the speeds down on race day. The course held up through 3 full rounds of racing and a total of 116 passes were made by the 64 entrants. On to the records…..
The first car into Impound was the Notabusa Comp Coupe driven by Larry Foley Jr. The I / GCC record now stands at 132.620 mph. Next in was Robert H.Sights driving the H/BSTR for the Udder Delite entry. The Mazda powered rod ran a 159.284 mph. To wind up the morning, the number 7 entry of Aardema Braun Lattin running in the F/BGRMR class ran the record up to 191.997 mph with Scott Goetz doing the driving. That was it for the cars. On to the motorcycles……..
Just before 8am, John Noonan on the Ballistic Batteries entry rolled into Impound with a 228.435 mph record on a Suzuki Hayabusa in the 1650 / MBF class. Next in was Derek McLeish riding the Team McLeish HD entry to a 54.003 mph record in the 50 / APS-VBG class. Tracie Carroll riding a Yamaha R6 in the 650 / M-G class put down a 143.414 mph run to give her the new record for the Go Go Gidget Racing entry. And then Ralph Hudson made his way to Impound riding a Suzuki GSXR to a 212.927 mph record in the 650 / APS-BF class. The Ridgerunner Motorsports Suzuki Hayabusa entry in the 1350 / M-G class was ridden by David Consalvo to a 167.702 mph record. Shane San Miguel riding a 2006 Hayabusa for the Old Number Seven entry pushed the 1350 / MPS-F record to 184.304 mph. The next rider in was John Noonan on another Ballistic Batteries entry. This time in the 2000 / APS-G class where he rode a, you guessed it, Hayabusa to a 197.724 mph record. The final motorcycle record of the meet was set by David Consalvo riding a Hayabusa ( duh ) for the Ridgerunner Motorsports entry. He bumped his earlier record by 000.254 to 167.956 mph in the 1350 / M-G class.
That puts the wraps on the September meet. Weather permitting we head back to Bonneville for the World Finals starting on October 2nd and then we return to the dirt on October 22nd.
So long from the high desert of Southern California. Take Care and race fast but most of all race safe!!
