UK Land Speed Record Attempt

David Tremayne, a name familiar to many here, has quietly been planning an attempt on the UK Land Speed Record (currently a little over 301 mph for the official two-way record). He is using his own Duo StayGold jet car.
Apart from all the usual problems with a low-budget effort, he (and others) also have to contend with the lack of real estate here in the UK. It's impossible to find somewhere to accelerate to 300+mph, run through a timed mile, and stop safely, so shorter distances are recognised.
Here is what happened on a recent test run:

The National British Speed Records started at the beginning of the 20th Century with the 1 mile and the 1 kilometre for the flying start distances. After the fickle nature of the beaches had forced World Speed Record contenders from Britain over to the USA (Ormond/Daytona then Bonneville) and then later to Australia the governing body introduced two extra distances the flying start 500 metres and the flying start 1/4 mile. On a 3 kilometre (1.9 mile) runway this allows both wheeldriven teams and jet car teams the space to slow down. What has been shown on the V-Box video with this posting is a run that 'used' just 1.25 kilometre of the 3 km runway at Elvington near York.

Wow, that is a terrible result for a test run. It looks like as soon as he shut down power, the car veered too much to the left to stay upright. Was that a result of power off or what? I am sorry for the team, but glad the driver will be OK.

Did the chute pull the back end of the car up into the air?
