Hi, all. I agree that what the salt looks like about now has little bearing
on how it will look several months from now. But here's my report anyway:
I was there on 5/25/16, late in the day, on my way back from Montana,
headed to California.
The salt was wet, but it didn't appear (from land's end) to be a lake
several -- or even an inch deep (at that location). I didn't see any
tire tracks at all in the salt. I am very glad that it has the ability to
"heal" itself, even though that ability is surely limited by lack of salt.
The color was white-ish (very pale grey?), about the way it looked
the last time I was there for Speed Week, in 2013.
On 5/25, anywhere east of land's end, I saw no dirt spots or any
other areas that didn't look covered in salt. But it was mostly dirt,
instead of salt, on either side of the paved road for much of the drive
along the last 2 or 3 miles of the road. I think that it's pretty much
the way it was in 2013.
